UASG Chair Updates UA Readiness Report: https://uasg.tech/download/uasg-050-ua-readiness-report-fy24/ Welcome to all by Anil. Thank you for the invite. Follow-up from our UASG discussion at ICANN 81. Survey regarding UA status. We stated that we already publish once a year the UA report. Happy to share with UAC. Let’s start with current status Total delegated TLDs. share of IDN in total TLDs is hardly 10% Second level IDN share is almost 1.5 % Websites: 11% supports UA DNS Traffic: less than 10 (inaudible)% UASG was founded in 2013. With help of icann we work towards the UA of all valid domains and email addresses. UA as best practices. UA readiness report. Intended for the entire software community, public sector, dns industry and all who make their systems UA ready * Scope of UA * Documentation of current technology gaps UA blockers * System should accept language other than english * System should be able to validate, process, store, display We test each and every level. Where are we? What still needs to be done? Then we do surveys with users and tech community Remedial activities: update. Which ones? UASG and ICANN priorities were also included in the report. Overall, acceptance levels are increasing. Almost 29%. Worked together with registries, registrars and others. Percentage of ccTLDs who are UA ready About UASG. We provide help, case studies to make things UA ready. UASG has sub-working groups that developed a curriculum. Aim for adoption by universities. 12 modules: basic. The advanced model is very comprehensive. We interact with end-user service providers and others. Survey on UA strategy. What are the motivators for the ccTLD and gTLD community? They all say “it provides an inclusive internet”. Secondly, “it empowers the people, as not all converse in English”. Thirdly, they say “UA adoption indirectly improves business growth”. All of us have a lot of ground to cover. 2 important things regarding UASG: * EAI readiness. Self-test came out. They can categorise their emails. silver/gold/platinum * Survey. Indicators. Self-assessment of your organisation. Is it UA ready? These are milestones. There are some focus areas. We worked for the past 10 years on UA awareness. Now the focus shifts from awareness to adoption. That is also reflected in the UA Day event selection. Secondly, UASG approached unique groups that can provide impetus for UA adoption. One of them are government. ICANN helps with that, We also approach the big IT players. Apple. Facebook, google etc. Thirdly, we touch on the DNS community: registry, registrars. They are important. Finally, we reach out to social media players. Abdalmomen: UAC is for and by ccTLDs. Our involvement in the survey? Something to explore, not for here and now to discuss? Sami: UA adoption examples can you please share and success stories with UAC? Anil: Sami takes lead in adopting the UA curriculum. Thank you. We undertake various workshops and training sessions, where we invite for instance the email community, and invite them to create a UA ready email. Learning experience. Examples where adoption increases: Thailand, China (others mentioned) Sami: UASG moved forward to UA adoption. See also our hackathons the past 2 years. At a “must” level, is there a strategy or solution that has been deployed? The American university in Bahrain and 3 more will adopt the curriculum. How do we showcase the ease of adoption? Anil: materials there. Videos. We conducted hackathons. See updates soon on UA Day tech website. Available to all. Will ask Abdalmomen to spread the news. We did discuss the potential for a ccTLD who you would not expect to speak to this, namely CIRA. Do you agree? Second testimonial by .RU? Do you agree with the 2 testimonials? Abdalmomen: i like the diversity. Bart: CIRA is not your usual suspect for this Bart: any questions regarding the layout of the session? Maria: I lost connection for a bit. What do you expect? Bart: focus on the what drivers UA. local language support by the ccTLD. What is your experience? Why is this a major factor for you as a ccTLD? Showcase what you have been doing. Why is it important for you as a ccTLD to support the community in their local languages Maria: makes sense. Will be useful to look at the list of drivers. Will others be covered in the session? Bart: you can cover other drivers, if you want. But the local languages stood out, and message is being reinforced by the unesco contribution. Abdalmomen: what are the key motivators? What are the drivers? What motivates other ccTLDs? Use .ru as a role model. Bart: the time distribution to be revisited. Otherwise you miss the opportunity for consultation. 6 minutes for the polling is not enoug. Perhaps for the first polling, yes. But the keynote and the testimonials need to be reduced. Maria: yes, agree. But i need a more concrete list of questions to address in the presentation. Otherwise i can speak for hours! Bart: sure. We will refine and reach out to presenters and session chair and moderator offline. No need to use the full UA session for the continued discussions. Maria: i will speak remotely at ICANN82. - Next steps Bart: What do you intend to do with the results?with the ones from this session? With the ones from the drivers session? What is your role in increasing UA Readiness? Sth to discuss after Seattle. What is your role? This build up to a roadmap. When you focus on the results, you can use this. For the introduction: this is a consultation. We will report back to you. Abdalmomen: the UAC purpose speaks about the platform function. Drivers. Update our library accordingly. What do ccTLDs need to know regarding the drivers? Same for the blockers. Consultation, that can serve as advice for ccTLDs. Bart: once you have the full picture, there might be additional actions. Good to discuss the results of the consultation. Maria: we can gather stats on how ccTLDs at the moment participate in UA adoption. How many ccTLDs in UA Day events? At the start of the session. Bart: think what you intend to do with the outcomes of the session. Convey the message to the audience. You are not just organising the session to feed curiosity of the UAC. Maria: that is why i suggested statistics. Question to Regina, Regarding the library: should we add links to the IDN World report? And the data sets? I reached out to Patrick, but I know you are involved as well Regina: ok! will check. New version will be produced in some weeks Maria: there is one link to the data set. Regina: not sure if we can share it. Is the library the right place? But we can check. Abdalmomen: we could mention that the ccTLDs had a lot of interested and many were selected for UA Day. our testimonials served as an incentive probably. Joke: use next UAC session on 19 Feb as a prep for Seatlle? Bart: the group needs to discuss what it intends to do with the outcome of the session To be confirmed whether the meeting on the 19th is a prep for seattle only, or a full UAC meeting d. Other sessions with relevance or role for UAC? 5. Reminder UAC session at ICANN83 in Prague: blockers for UA readiness 6. Next meetings a.
