Hello there, Small businesses depend on .com to have a presence on the web. Having your own website and not just something on social media adds legitimacy and allows you to have your own voice… independent and on-message. In a way, it is an issue of free speech. Please do not allow these proposed increases to occur and be prohibitive to small business. Thank you!

The changes ICANN has announced around .com price increases and Verisign being allowed to operate a registrar are atrocious. There are many individuals such as myself who run a few dozen domain names. Allowing the prices to go up 70% over 10 years will make many of these smaller sites have to shut down out of financial necessity. This is another step towards the death of the distributed internet. -- Nick Busey

ICANN, This raising of prices on .COM domains is unjust and threatens the balance of a free and open world wide web. If anything ICANN should be fighting to protect the global public's interests no those of giant corporations. Verisign should not be allowed to monopolize the defacto default domain. .COM has and continues to be the most popular and trusted of domains. To allow corporate interest to behave as a rent seeking organization and siphon money off of the web is an affront to the global information community.

The Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement has been arrived at without any regard to the desires, wants or needs of the worldwide internet community, and instead has designed to fill the coffers of both ICANN and Verisign, at the expense of that very same worldwide community. To whom this may concern, Raising the cost of .com domains, especially as laid out by proposed Amendment 3, is unacceptable. In a world where inequality is out of control, the last thing we need to do is charge more for access to technology that profoundly affects free speech. And those that are affected the most are the poor among us. So its a big no unless you want to offer free .com domains to those below the poverty level. If this amendment passes, then it will be time to raise up and fight back. Lets avoid more fighting and deny this amendment's time of day. Good day and do the right thing - Dustin

As an owner of several .com-domains, I feel it necessary to write to you in order to express my profound dissatisfaction with the proposed amendment 3 to the .COM registry agreement. Firstly, the fact that decisions which will affect the registrar- and consumer communities at large, are being made unilaterally and behind closed doors, is outrageous. Secondly, I fail to see how allowing Verisign Inc. to control the wholesale domain price in the coming years will benefit consumers. This proposal should be scrapped. Furthermore, representatives from the ICANN community and internet users should be appointed then allowed to participate in these decision-making processes in the future. Regards, Fredrik Krokstad

Hello, I am an entrepreneur and software engineer. Over the past decade I have engaged in several small start up businesses and engaged in purchasing and maintaining .com domains to run my businesses. As with any start up I have operated at a loss . The cost of obtaining a domain is just one component required for an online business and increasing the price will reduce the likelihood that I will launch a new business website, or maintain ones that I own now. As you know our modern economy relies on a robust technology based startup culture- I feel allowing prices for domains to skyrocket as just one of the small components would stifle businesses and innovation and ask that you do not allow this or greatly restrict the rate at which costs can grow. The proposed 7% rate is far above inflation and the actual costs to maintain these names is already highly profitable.

I'm writing to record my opposition to the proposed changes in price increases for the .com TLD. I own several .com domains as a freelance website developer, developer in my community, and with clients and other prospects. To implement a price increase of something that is invariably not a tangible product in the eyes of the consumer (the website/app/presence at the domain is the product) without considering the needs of the internet community at large is irresponsible and sneaky. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. Multiple domains, in fact. Increasing prices hurt my ability to maintain an online presence. This is not in my (or anyone else's) best interest. Therefore, I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. >From everything I read, no one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Kindly act accordingly. Thomas Forrester Middleton, Wisconsin USA
