I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. It stands to benefit no one or no entity except verisign. Additional services will not be provided. The cost of administration of domains is not rising with the very low cost of automation. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified particularly on renewal which has very little if any human interaction or resources used aside from maintaining software systems. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business influencing prices directly. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest and I believe this to be a good example failing at that charter.

I wish to enter comment in dissent against price increases for .com domains. Backdoor deals without clear spending needs equate to a worse consumer outcomes. I plea that you do not enter this deal as .com domains are the backbone of small business. We need overhead to remain inexpensive because of this.

Hi there, I recognize that a business needs to increase its prices to ensure it's sustainable. However, I also believe any such increase should be reasonable and are financially accessible to as many people as possible. To raise your prices by more than 70% while paying $20 million to support "system initiatives" without any transparency seems suspicious and the lack of transparency brings into the ethics of this matter. My hope is that ICANN will rethink its approach to price increase and provide better transparency into its operations to create a fair, accessible internet. — Mohammed

Dear sir or madam, I'm writing to you to inform you that I strongly yet politely disagree with the .COM Registry Agreement. The effective rise in prices coming to .COM owners over the next years will have a negative impact on the internet as a whole. Whilst I understand the nature of this agreement, I and a lot of others would strongly appreciate a change of mind in this regard. Domains should be affordable and available for the end customer and decisions about this huge change should not be discussed only between two parties. Many people are affected and while single customers may not have the necessary oversight over the industry, we are the ones affected most. To Whom It May Concern, I strongly object to the agreement reached between Verisign and ICANN to allow a substantial increase in the wholesale price for .COM registration over the next 10 years. Why was this fee increase negotiated in secrecy without considering input from the ICANN community or Internet users? ICANN has a responsibility to the Internet community to be open and judicious in their operations. The upcoming agreement falls far short of this goal. Ralph Sutter

These kinds of changes being made without the input of internet users is unacceptable. The price increases allegedly are being made to fund improvements to the domain name system, but there are no specifics given on what exactly the initiatives are, how they will be tracked, or how anyone will ensure the funds are spent appropriately. On top of that, VeriSign will reap the greatest reward from this price increase, since they will receive more revenue over the initial period without providing any value in return, and then will receive even greater revenues after the initial $20 million is paid out!
