I’m a solopreneur seeking to make a livelihood using the internet and the latest technology available at a modest cost. As a result, I’ve been able to compete for business despite my size and limited budget. I recently learned about the price increase through my domain name provider. This means that .com wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices during the next decade and beyond. In a nutshell, such an increase threatens my ability to stay in business. If I am forced to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars each year to retain my .com domains, I will cease to be profitable. Such a proposed increase in price will eliminate competition from the “little” guys. People migrated to the United States for the freedom and opportunity to make a living. To those entrusted with keeping the internet gateways, I have received very disturbing news that you are seeking to unilaterally increase wholesale domain name prices for ".com" domains by as much as 70% or more over the next 10 years. Further that you have attempted to do this "stealthily" without consulting the registrars that serve the internet. Apparently you have prior form in this regard; of unilaterrally announcing price increases suddenly and without consultation. But you should consider that the ".com" domain is a different matter than the others. The impact is far greater - and the anger will be much more widely spread and more keenly felt. I for one have not heard of your prior similar behaviour, but as the owner of several .com domains I am now up to speed, and I am pissed!

I've just been made aware of the new contracts being discussed regarding .com domain price increases. I do not agree with such an ego-centric approach to business. While I understand businesses need to make a profit, lavishly feeding off of people in such a manner is pure greed. The fact these contracts have been discussed behind closed doors shows guilt and greed doesn't become you. Quite discusting in fact, maybe moving forward with a little honour and ethics would be more appropriate. Let's see if you guys have a sense of decency. Thanks

Deae ICANN, As a small business owner of an online hosting and domain registry I felt uneasy about the proposed fee increase of the. Com registration by VeriSign. These small fee changes cut directly into the already thin margin of my business and thousands of others like my company. I totally understand the rising cost of maintaining and operating the vital core infrastructure necessary to maintain the name service and registration of the internet but without considering us, the troops who hustle everyday to bring new Nettizens to the ecommerce world we suffer alienating large segment of the market.
