This needs to be done with transparency, not behind closed doors and without the money earmarked for anything. Verisign has been known to vastly overcharge everyone for domains and certs, this 20 million behind closed doors feels like a bribe. Why not open it up to bidding by other companies? What is justifying these prices increases? If anything domain names should get cheaper. I feel that this amendment is wholely unfair to the end customer. Apparently negotiated and agreed to in the middle of the night, with zero input from the customer side of the argument, will make me support ANY regulation of this field. Additionally, if any politician calls out this unfair price increase they will have my vote, no matter which party they come from. Please reconsider this amendment and involve all concerned, in the open, and with full transparency! Alex Arko

I, too, care about reducing the barriers to the open web. As a registrant of several small scale .com, .net and .org domains, I am opposed to the proposed price increase to .COM domains. The current rate of $7.85 is already too high - as technology moves forward, these prices should decrease and not the opposite. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest, and not be a slave to corporate interests such as Verisign.
