I am associated with a registry. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. If ICAAN acts for profit and not the public interest, it should be restructured completely to prevent resources being funneled towards their greedy executives. Sir/Madame: I would like to register my vehement opposition to the proposed amendment. I am not convinced that costs are really rising or are headed towards rising in the near future, especially in the high tech industry where the trend we have seen since the invention of the computer that costs go down not up. What exactly gets more costly on a per registration basis as the number of registered domains increase? If you need more servers, hardware costs per unit computing power are going down. If you need more coders, I don’t see why a doubling of registrations requires a doubling of coders. So what costs is it that are rising or will rise soon? I highly suspect that this amendment is an attempt by Verisign to capitalize on their a government-mandated monopoly position, and is hence an illegitimate proposal and should be turned down. I am a small time, hobbiest website operator. The cheap pricing of the .COM domain allowed me to easily set up public facing services for me and my family to use. This has allowed me to advance my understanding for networking, web development, and web hosting by leaps and bounds compared to if the .COM domain was less acessible. The homelabbers of the world thank you in advance for continuing the price freeze.
