I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. ICANN should be working to bring the cost down instead of looking at gouging customers with a price hike. Dear ICCAN I am a personal webmaster from China, I just learned about COM's proposal to raise prices every year. This is not good for many personal webmasters. For example, if a person wants to set up a blog and he wants to register a com domain name, his website construction cost will also rise because of the com price increase, which will eventually cause him to close his personal website because his personal website will Have any income. This is not what we want to see, we hope to see a more accessible registration price. With the increasing popularity of the Internet today, we should lower the threshold for personal website building, not raise him. There is no any kind of justification for increases .com prices. Actually you would have done much better move if you decrease .com prices. As far as I am concerned the increase of .com prices would force me to find other extensions to register.

The proposed amendment will make it difficult for small enterprises to own .com domains. Many individuals rely on the internet to offer services, including freelancing, and this will just make it harder to make a living across the board. This will hurt people from the developing nations more, since their currencies are weaker against the dollar. There is really no reason whatsoever to increase prices on a yearly basis, Verisign is merely the registrar and not the owner of the domain. Furthermore, once this proposal goes through, the floodgates will open and everyone will try to increase prices on all domains on a regular basis. Hello, Make .com cheaper instead of more expensive. All the good names are gone. So higher pricing for trash domains doesn't seems to work. People are moving towards new gtlds. Demand will fall for .com. Thank you.

Dear Sir/Madam, It has been my experience that annual increases to services aren't always beneficial to the end user and in the case of the .COM TLD, it is my believe that any annual increase to this TLD would seriously affect a large no of .COM users within a few very short years. The question that needs to be asked here is at what point do we stop screwing people with excessive annual rate rises because we can and because Profit is the all important goal of our over taxed, profit only focused society. In the opinion of the writer, annual rises in .COM TLD's are not necessarily desirable, however perhaps a bi-annual review might be acceptable as long as any increase was kept at a reasonable level and not applied just because you can, solely to increase profits. Any increase would need to show that there is just cause and need for the increase. Yours sincerely DP
