I am a registrant of many .com domain names. I am against the proposed price increase to ".COM" domains. No one other than Verisign wants increases in ".COM" prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified, as it is an automated process that should happen in milliseconds. Verisign is merely your manager of the ".COM" Registry - it has no business dictating the price like a monopoly. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.

The ICANN is an important entity in internet infrastructure and should act with complete transparency and in the interest of the general population. It is of highest importance to keep .com domains affordable to ensure that it is possible to start new projects on the internet easily and combat consolidation of internet content onto the big platforms (facebook, youtube, instagram, etc.). Therefore I am strongly opposed to lifting the price freeze on .com domains. Furthermore, Verisign needs to be prohibited from operating as a domain registrar to keep the power balance in that market in check. Doing otherwise would put the competition at a significant disadvantage and hurt the general public by making the market less competitive. Finally, I demand that future interactions between ICANN and Verisign become public and completely transparent. Best Regards, Marten Lienen

I use the Internet but I am not a .com registrant. My personal site is on a .net domain but I still feel strongly about this as it could easily affect me in the future if I ever buy a .com, or maybe even if I don't. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest, and this doesn't sound like that. To Whom it May Concern: I am a boutique web developer and hosting company with a variety of small business and non-profit clients. Costs for domain names is always a concern. Most concerning in this proposal is the lack of specifics about the increase in fees over the coming years. A small hike of a dollar or two over a few years seems quite reasonable, but the proposal seems to be structured without any parameters set for price increases. This leaves the door open for extortive level fees. This is basically a monopoly situation, with me and all my clients held hostage to the whims of ICANN and Verisign. We can only count on the good will and self-control of two profit-minded entities in order to keep from continually raising prices for a commodity we can’t afford to lose. I can’t imagine any one on the board would feel comfortable in the same situation. This proposal needs at least a re-write with specific controls and parameters put in place, and a better explanation of how the 20 million is justified, and how it will be spent. I'm an IT Solutionist which provides services to small and medium sized businesses. I handle all aspects of my customers IT needs including domain name registrations. My customers and I are against any price increases for domain registrations considering the price will not benefit those who need it the most. With the massive amount of .com registrations at the current pricing, is that not enough? Even the slightest increase in .com pricing multiplied by the hundreds of millions of active .com domain registrations results in a gross increase of income. The cost of hosting domain registrations is miniscule compared to the income that it generates. It's disgusting. Keep it fair!
