I am an independent web developer and I hold a few domain names which end in .com. I believe that the prices should not increase and the current pricing is sufficient enough. It mostly is Verisign that benefits from this and if the prices increase, we would opt for a different domain name. We do not want to do this since it will have a lot of overhead cost and change. I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). With well over 1300 domains the affect on the business is substantial I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains as it will make the volume of domains held be less which will be bad for the overall business. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Joshua ten Brink San Jose, Costa Rica

In a period of history when businesses both big and small need domains to compete in the markerplace, such increases in a basic business necessaties are not a welcome expense. To pull a quote from your own "Who We Are" section of your website: "ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet." This shady act of business is a complete contradiction about how you describe yourself. Allowing a single entity wave money in your face to amend in their behalf at the expense of the public whom you claim to benefit does NOT promote competition and growth of the internet. This is merely a "loophole" to monopolize on a technology that was created for everybody and to connect the entire world together in a way that was once never imaginable. I question your "leadership" when this sort of practice happens. As an American, who loves my country dearly, I have to deal with this sort of stuff from my own government and her numerous, questionable organizations who constantly steal and adulterate the privacy of not only our own. but of the entire world. I also have to deal with corporate buy outs on a daily basis from our skewed dual party system. Just like our government system was never meant to be run this way and our being our being oppressed buy this crony driven brainwashed system, you are acting no better. While there are many people around this country and this world who are struggling to keep their head above water, you are concerned about squeezing more money out of everybody and tipping the already unbalanced world more so in the wrong direction. I not only call for a denouncing of the amendment, I also call for the public to investigate your leadership and your intentions for the "public-benefit" you claim to have. -Kurtis Orlando, Florida

The rate hike proposed by ICANN and Verisign is outrageous. Currently those of us who need to secure a .com domain name already pay extraordinarily high sums of money for the domain names we've registered for. I believe if the prices are to be increased, ICANN needs to be more transparent in 1) how they arrived at this decision including the justification 2) how the additional revenues will be spent on improving the domain name infrastructure and/or governance. It seems to me that a price increase on .COM domains is imminent, instead of prices going down. It's already hard enough to run an online business with so many competition and expenses that comes along with hosting and running ads to promote your product. Nobody wants a price increase on their domains. I have two .COM domains, and not enough sale to cover all my expenses. I'm trying every year to get discounts on my domain renewal, because every penny counts. I certainly object any price increases in the future. Please, just don't Lionel
