Dear ICANN team I understand that you plan to allow Verisign to increase wholesale pricing over .com domains by a significant margin over the next decade, so as to obtain a further $20m support for your own initiatives. My registrar is concerned that there is no clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. I share this concern and feel that such decisions that affect so many users across the web, shouldn't be made by just two bodies. I would value a wider consultation over the pricing proposal. Hello and good day. The agreement between ICANN and Verisign to increase the wholesale prices of the .com TLD is just wrong. The burden of these phased increments will most certainly be borne by the end users. The .com TLD is the most common and with more and more of the world's population coming online, a substantial amount of them will need a custom domain for themselves and some for their businesses. Most of these new domains will be of the .com variety. So as it is, Verisign already stands to make more money. It only makes sense for the prices to go lower over time. Unfortunately, with this proposed plan, the reverse is the case. Access to the internet is a fundamental human right. To extend this further, cheap and affordable access to a web domain should be a given; especially for common TLDs. This proposed agreement ensures that this wouldn't happen. Going by this agreement, the only winner is Verisign and to a lesser extent, ICANN. There is no justifiable rationale for the proposed price increments. If it unfortunately comes to pass, the people of the world, the internet economy & ecosystem will suffer for what is effectively a cash grab by Verisign; odiously enabled by ICANN.

I object to the private deal between ICANN and Verisign signing over control of parts of the public internet to a private company. This is not in the public interest. I further object to the price rises that have happened in the recent past and that are proposed for the future. These price rises are beyond the cost of service provision and will be detrimental to the wide provision of .com domains. At atomisation of the internet where .com domains are the purview of only deep-pocketed corporations is not in the public interest.

I am associated with the secondary market in domain names. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. Hi, I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business), and I also develop the domains I own. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. Not only I’m a domainer and I’d like to continue to do so, but also .com is the world’s most known domain extension, and It has to be affordable. The internet has not ended its growth and more and more people will need to own a domain name, it will directly affects everyone, every year, to increase the cost of owning a .com domain name. As a fairly new domain “owner” I am annoyed, but not surprised at the attempt to control the costs and process of securing domain names by Verisign. I guess the recent acquittal of DJT and the bailouts of the auto industry and banking meltdown have led to the perception that nobody gives a damn about monopolies anymore. You already have the only game in town, but evidently that’s not enough. So you can put me down on record for objecting to the proposed deal and the lack of transparency on where the increased fees are going and whether Verisign will gain an unfair advantage in the process.
