I am opposed to increases in wholesale charges for .com names. The .com names I use are for charities and .com is chosen because it is the most used and most memorable for the general public. Please reconsider and find another more equitable solution for any required funding. Thank you!

To whom it may concern, These changes will impact my business significantly for the next 10 years due to my being in the digital marketing space and I would prefer if these changes do not happen. With everything increasing, we need to be conservative with pricing and this is not helping anyone in our industry on my level. This is all about money, shame on you.

We believe the internet to be a communal space. Yes it costs money to run it but no private company or corporation should be able to hold users to ransom, in effect, by controlling the price of their usage. Settle on an independently arbitrated rate and stick to it, with possible 5 or 10 year readjustments due to inflation, if necessaryn.b. there are a lot of small personal users who will be adversely affected by this. I have a Ph.D in computer science and I am currently an assistant professor at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. I am writing to urge ICANN and Verisign NOT to raise the prices of the top level domain ".com" Doing so directly hurts a variety of small enterprises and individuals and therefore is harmful to the web in general. When .com domains (by far the most popular TLD) become more expensive it discourages small businesses, individuals, startups, and other similar small / new enterprises from creating their own websites. They will likely turn to alternative "walled gardens" to publish content on the web such as social media platforms. Instead of being able to act independently and build their brand on a neutral, equal opportunity platform they are pushed to grow and reinforce the already massive social media companies. They are also then subject to the rules, policies, and procedures of these companies. Additionally, for many organizations that already hold a .com TLD there is entrenchment. They have built a business and a brand on their TLD website. These price changes are going to extract money from these companies, forcing them to pay more for the same service being provided. This is unfair to those organizations and consolidates large sums of money to an already powerful organization (Verisign). Cheap .com domains help enable innovation, new ideas, original content, and startup businesses. They keep the web an open and free place, and they encourage exploration and independence. A marketplace with more independent actors is more divergent, exciting, and creative. -- -Professor Novak

I oppose this agreement. The rules for this type of thing need to be laid out in detail and .com prices are already way too high. The news of proposed changes to the contract ICANN has with VeriSign, Inc. is a concern to everyone downstream of them, to say the least. What led to this? A lack of financial prudence? ICANN's unrealistic political and operational targets? A view to increasing profits? When you're talking about increased prices and you're allowed to do that at VeriSign, I don't know that's going to produce any better safety or security from anyone who's paying that additional cost. There is nothing that tells us that would be the case. On the wrong side of history VeriSign and ICANN seem to have us over a barrel. This agreement gives a perpetual monopoly to a company and the power to enact unregulated price increases. This has serious anti-competitive implications. This is not how a non-profit, essentially a public trust, should be run. The resolution of your long-standing and costly litigation with VeriSign is not our responsibility and the cost should not be imposed on us. Should ICANN's non-profit status be revoked and the administering of these services be considered a public utility? Stop this foolishness and set a price cap.
