Allowing Verisign to increase the fee for .com domains nearly 70% over 10 years is terrible for the internet at large. I operate a number of .com domains for various purposes and those increases will make it unsustainable to operate the domains I use. I believe price increases should be allowed, but only at a fraction of what has been proposed. -- Laura Heninger

To whom it may concern, I write to you in opposition of Amendment 3 to the .com Registry Agreement. Allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years will be a detriment to the internet community. It will hurt small players and discourage users from creating the wild a quirky internet content we all enjoy. With a 50% net margin (compared to ex Facebook's 26%) I doesn't seem to me that the increase is necessary. Verasign has had a strong return <http://api.tenkwizard.com/cgi/image?quest=1&rid=23&ipage=12716814&doc=15> and does not need to further tighten their grip on the internet for the sake of their shareholders Thanks for your consideration, Evan

Hello, As a small business owner, I firmly oppose the increase in the .com purchase price. Building a business can use up quite a bit of resources, and purchasing URLs should not contribute to this cost any more than they currently do. Thanks Kara Muzia

This seems like an scam where we, the supposed beneficiaries of the service you provide, get no clear benefit while you make an obscure agreement with a big company for money with no guarantee for us, while opening the door to the need of spend much more money to own a domain, wich will impact to all small businesses.

Dear Mr. Marby, et al. I've been purchasing .com domain names since before I could drive. I have a lot invested in domain names, and I'm concerned about this proposed change. This is a slippery slope, which could very well end in ICANN's losing oversight, given the already mounting controversy. Remember that in the end the customer is boss. Increasing these prices can damage to the entrepreneurial atmosphere. From our end, this price hike seems unnecessary, especially if the funds aren't going to anything to improve the future of the internet. I understand that increasing the wholesale price is probably intended to affect the wholesalers only, perhaps even designed to prevent the wholesalers from profiteering on the domains that they've purchased in order to artificially raise the price of said domains, but being realistic, the consumers will probably take the largest hit from this change no matter how you hash it. Not only does this limit access to those who wish to have a stake in the web world, it is detrimental to the integrity of business on the internet as a whole. If this truly is an attempt to "widen" the market, in that, more domain registries were to open up as a result of this change, where the existing registrars can no longer afford near as many domains in bulk in which to profit off of, my fear as specified is that the consumer is impacted the most. There are many small/medium sized businesses who own many domains for each of their own products who will be affected in ways disproportionate to the existing registrars. The businesses targeted by this motive would still come out on top... It is as if a utility bill were suddenly and perpetually raised, while its funds were not used to improve its infrastructure. This sweetheart deal between ICANN and Verisign should NOT be approved. In fact, the manner and type of deal created should be enough to remove Verisign from the .com registry completely (except as a reseller), and further restrictions be put on ICANN to reduce the likelihood of deals like this. To who it may concern, I find the upcoming changes in the new deal between Verisign and ICANN is wrong. A big decision like this, which will affect millions of internet users- including small businesses and non-profits, should not be up to only two companies to decide. The internet consumers, both users and the industry as a whole, should be considered in important deals like this. In many countries there are competion rules that wouldnt allow near monopolies like this being created. Please listen and respect the rest of us users and keep important deals like this transparent and open for input from all users of the net. We are one world. Lets work together and.
