Dear ICANN, I am very concerned that ICANN appears to be rubber-stamping a major rise in .com prices. There does not appear to be any justification for raising prices. No economic study has been undertaken by ICANN to demonstrate that Verisign needs any more money or that there is some other public interest in raising prices. The price increase appears to be purely a money-grab by an already handsomely paid company. That means only its shareholders stand to benefit from the increased price, not the public. Moreover, the $20 million that Verisign is paying ICANN in exchange for a price increase worth billions is embarrassing. Not only is it a paltry sum compared to the windfall that ICANN is bestowing upon Verisign, but it appears to be a quid pro quo despite protestations otherwise. Such conduct makes ICANN look very bad and raises serious questions about whether ICANN can be trusted to look after the public interest. I am against the increase of the price for .com domains. I believe that the possibility of sharing thoughts and ideas is far more valuable. As Verisign will be able to increase the price almost on demand it will most like eliminate significant amount of small business/personal websites from the Internet. Such consequences should be unacceptable.

What the hell are you trying to do?? Why you would wanted to make more money from nothing. If you don't know, i want to let you know that the DNS and web system will be recreated to be fair. Why we should pay money to get 3-4 lines of text added to a file. Ahh you guys never wanted to be useful, instead of earning even more money. Remember Tim Brenner's Lee who invented www made it open to public to let people to develop it. But you guys, only wanted to get more, more and even more money. What you are planning to do in hell with that money?? I don't know why I'm angry but I can not afford to pay $$ each money for just naming my IP address. As a registrant of a .com domain name for personal use, I am completely against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. This price increase is not tied to inflation and makes the .com domains prices unpredictable (but sure to grow a lot). Also, there is no transparency how the additional money that ICANN will receive from Verisign will be spent. Please help stop these unjustifiable price increases and rethink your strategy to make more money! Simeon Valentinov

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Kimberly Montreal, Canada

The internet is wonderful tool - in large part due to the fact that it has empowered almost anybody to afford to become a publisher. Domain prices play a vital role in this and .com is still the benchmark of trust in the internet. In my opinion, raising .com prices would further contribute to the gentrification of the internet. I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. ICANN does not and should not exist to make huge profits. Nor should it be enabling others to extort them either. Domains are digital real estate. Imagine if only one company could sell land in NYC. You’re creating oligopolies and monopolies, discouraging competition, slowing growth, and hurting the internet. First the .org debacle, and now this. Candidly, it's scandalous. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market. It's simply not right to allow them to raise prices at this time. John

To whom it may concern, It has come to my attention that there may be upcoming changes to the agreement between ICANN and Verisign that may result in price increases for .COM domain names. As an operator of a small music-related business which relies on a website using such a domain, I find this troubling. I hope you will reconsider the conditions of this deal in favor of consumers and small businesses, as opposed to the monopolistic entity Verisign, Inc. Thanks, Kevin Breidenbach Colorado, USA
