OPPOSED Allowing the existing operator to lock in such dramatic price increases smacks of a sweetheart deal which is highly inappropriate. This contract is a legal monopoly and should be subject to strict justification for rate increases. A 31% price increase every four years is equivalent to 4.6% every year and this potentially outpaces inflation or any cost increases the vendor might incur. It's just extra profit. The contract should be opened to competitive bidding. There may very well be another company that can do this and keep its price more under control. The contract could also allow for increases pegged to a recognized inflation rate. Also, is it possible that the system can be modified so there can be more than one company that manages the .com registry? Then those registries can compete for the wholesale business. I realize that's a lot of work, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market. It's simply not right to allow them to raise prices at this time. Rhett

To Whom it May Concern, This matter concerns everyone who uses the internet especially business owners who own .com’s. The decision to make these proposed amendments without the voice of other parties, namely, the customers, business owners and such, is not only hugely detrimental to ecommerce as a whole but does not act in accordance with democratic principles. I'm in opposition against raising .com domain prices over the next decade. 'Monopoly' type deals like this should not be allowed to be made behind closed doors without some type of vote from the public beforehand.

Hello, I am writing to oppose the Proposed Amendment 3, which will simply at the cost of the public interest you should be protecting, give Verisign even more capability to monopolize and ruin the accessibility and freedom that should be at the heart of the internet. The current costs are more than enough and should not be able to continuously influenced by a company with no interest in the need of regular individuals or small businesses needing this kind of domain to be presentable.
