It seems prudent to increase prices if the parties involved are losing money while offering the same services. Are they? It seems prudent to increase prices if the parties involved, offering the same services, are making less profit each year due to static pricing. Are they? A seven percent a year increase seems overly excessive considering the yearly changes in cost of living. It seems to me to be an arbitrary increase without offering any reasons for the increase. Simply saying the price has not increased for a period of years is less than helpful. How much have profits risen over those years? You appear to be asking for comments without offering information upon which to create an opinion and share it in the comments. Am I wrong? If so, please let me know. Thank you for your time. Hi there; I am opposed to the current proposal of price increase with a cap of $10.26 per year by 2026. Despite inflation and increased cost of human labor, the cost for compute and storage has gotten significantly cheaper over the past years, and this trend will continue, and thus the increase cost of domain registration maintenance. This is a simple economics of scale problem. If we're talking about managing 1000 domains, I can see that cost increase as a valid concern to keep up with the cost of inflation and cost of human labor; however, we're talking about managing millions and billions of domains, and makes the cost adjustment unreasonable. I do support an increase from the current $7.85 to a future $9.50 price point, such that it keeps pace with inflation for the next 10 years. Thanks, Andy Huang

I am concerned about allowing Verisign, which effectively has a monopoly on the .COM registry, to make significant price increases (7% per year, well above the rate of inflation), especially considering that the cost of computing and connectivity continues to decrease rapidly. It is my understanding that you've made a deal with Verisign that would allow them to raise prices on .COM domains over the next 10 years. This is not acceptable. The cost of technology gets cheaper every year and you want to raise the price? It should be lowered if anything! It will hurt many small business owners and is nothing more than a tax increase. As the owner of two domain names intended for use in currently not for profit websites for amateur historians I am happy for any improvements in the security, stability and resiliency of the DNS. I also respect the need for the regulation of those services to recover the costs of doing so but I trust that prices will not be made prohibitive to various users of these services. The plan to increase .COM prices sounds like a bad idea fueled by a conflict of interest. Verisign puts money towards ICANN who then sets industry rules and standards that benefit Verisign. By being able to increase prices 70% over the next ten years, you are going to make it more and more difficult for small business owners to afford good domain names. I understand that ICANN has announced significant changes to its contract with Verisign, Inc., and that these changes were made privately, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the community or Internet users. As the director of a nonprofit organization supporting families diagnosed with cancer, I STRONGLY OBJECT to the indicated price increases that will harm my organization, and those dependent on using the Internet as a whole. With .com domains making up 40% of all registered domain names online, this decision will affect most of us. While our primary domain is a .org, we have other programs registered under .com addresses--everyone knows that the advantage of using .com is a greater reach and public use. My understanding is that the agreement with Verisign will allow for increase in domain fees every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and allow wholesale domain prices to grow by more than 70% over the next 10 years. This will absolutely price typical users like me completely out of the market for .com domains. It seems clear that ICANN is benefiting from these changes, yet there doesn't seem to be clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will oversee that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. I object to this decision, and feel it will create an unfair burden to many nonprofits, small business users, and community organizations that depend on the internet for outreach, fundraising, and more. I strongly oppose the recent changes made to the ICANN contract with Verisign. It is terrible for ICANN to make these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. I cannot support changes that will make .COM wholesale domain prices grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. I also oppose the other price increases the contract allows for. These changes will ultimately make .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everyone. It is very shady for Verisign to agree to pay an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. Hello ICANN, Since .COM represents more than 40% of all websites registered today, it should be illegal for a private corporation to "regulate" and make price increases of the .COM domain. There is no legitimate reason to increase the price of the .COM because this will lead to the closing of many creative websites that survive with minimum money on free hosting servers ! What's happening? Last month, ICANN, the organization that oversees domain names, announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). ICANN made these changes *in secret*, *without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users.* Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of *ignoring unified opposition against such action*, we are focused on leading the fight against price increases that will harm the Internet as a whole. This is a crucial time to raise our voices given that *.COM domains make up 40% of all registered domain names online*. What does this change mean? Wholesale registries charge registrars a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don’t stop there. This will mean that* .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade*. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Why is ICANN doing this? To whom it concerns, I understand that last month, ICANN, the organization that oversees domain names, announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). ICANN made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action. Wholesale registries charge a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don’t stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Alongside these contract changes, Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. I am the owner of a number of domains and I'm afraid if we were to sustain an unreasonable and unnecessary price increase to this infrastructure it would affect by ability to host my websites and do business. I have very small streams of income from some of my domains and coupled with hosting costs it amounts to a substantial amount. We are in an era where technology is increasing rapidly and becoming more available. Why take a step backwards? Please reconsider this initiative at this time.

Please do not make these changes to the .COM domains, I own many such domains and the price increases will force me to close down several side businesses. Additionally, I am confused about why ICANN is apparently asking Verisign for a bribe of $20 million to allow them to start raising prices on their domains. This sort of behavior can only hurt the Internet, and ICANN is supposed to be the governing body for domain name registration, allowing this sort of change to the rules just because someone is willing to pay you enough money is terrible!

I don't expect as the little guy, aka the consumer, to matter much to the big guys, but some discernment gains far more respect and appreciation then deception. It's pretty simple. I am against any changes that will increase the cost of domain names. Verisign should NOT be allowed to increase .com prices just because they have given a "donation" to ICANN. This is clearly NOT a donation. This is a corrupt bribe. They are paying $20m and getting near $1B in return paid for by users. This is WRONG. The quick turnaround for a price hike is unacceptable. There was no discussion with the larger community, in addition to shady funding and poor implementation of process and feedback makes me not agree with the issue of increasing prices. It is acceptable to raise prices for cost of infrastructure, but there should be a breakdown or justification as to where these funds are coming from and the allocation of current prices and why the current proposal remedies any shortfalls.

I do not support the increase in .COM prices. There is no public interest in increasing prices and the only reason to do so would be due to corporate pressure, which is what ICANN is to protect. I am a registrar of 10+ domains currently and have owned dozens over the years. All increasing prices would do is limit the availability of the domains which is not what ICANN is there to do. The internet was set up with .COM available to everyone, and it is easily the most common top-level domain used. New top levels are coming out every day and the .COM era will soon end, but that is not an excuse to squeeze current and future users of .COM domains. Cory Guy

To whom it may concern; Price freeze should stay in place. IPv6 will make domain name purchases necessary in the near future. I will no longer be able to have a simple IPv4 for my hobby VPS servers. Small business, and individuals will burden the huge proposed price increase. Prices should be lowered and Verisign should work within current fees. Verisign is in a monopoly situation and should only change prices based on Consumer Price Index. Lets not allow corporate greed to hinder growth of what should be a universally accessible service. Do not allow price increase. Renegotiate a fair deal for the public and consider allowing another company the opportunity to work within current and projected revenue. RA should control cost, and become more efficient at doing the job. Not seek ways to make more money from domain names. Thank you, César O. Jiménez
