To Whom It May Concern, I own several domains. Many of my domains are used for free sites whereas I do not profit at all. Please reconsider the exorbitant price increases. If you feel you must increase, only increase on future domains OR even better, future users so that current buyers can remain at a forever rate. However, increasing domain prices at the current rate will make it terribly expensive for future generations. It is best to keep domain pricing low. Nearly every person on the planet will want at least one domain so surely you can easily keep the buying rate even lower than what it is today, which makes the inflation an act of greed. Thank you. As someone who has been involved since 1993 with law.com (and others) it is clear that there is a fixed cost to running the .com TLD. However, given the large number of names, that fixed cost is spread over a large number of domain names. Allowing for an increased price and annual increases will only serve one entity - the registrar. If that is not clear, put out the .com TLD for competitive bidding and see how many entities will bid at a lower price. Thanks

I registered my first domain in 1994 when they were free from InterNIC. I didn't abuse this... I simply registered my company name of Graphix.com which has since changed to Merlix. My livelihood for the past 25 years has been around the internet. Over the years, I have registered numerous domains for development as well as investment. I also manage domain names for numerous clients, many of which are non-profits and churches. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. There is zero justification for this price increase and as such am totally opposed. Please spend more time and resources on tackling domain squatters, the large companies buying up and reselling hundreds of thousands of domains for scandalous amounts (often 1000%+ markup) - This is a far greater matter than than even considering granting Verisign an increase to domain registration fees, it's nothing more than a money grab that does not bring additional value to .com domain owners.

I own a couple of hundred domain names and run a small business based on that as a domainer (domains investor). I am against the proposed price increase for .COM domains. I do not see any obvious reason for the cost to run the registry to increase. Technology gets cheaper when scaled and the number of registrations is still increasing. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. I see this as rent-seeking by Verisign. This will further cripple the domain industry. The current rate of $7.85 is already more than justified. Please help stop these unjustifiable price increases and support the average customer.

A price increase in the .COM TLD would result in us cancelling all "typo" domains (hundreds of .com domains we have registered for our clients which consider the most common typos and redirect to the correct .com domains). I recently ran an analysis for https://hostingchecker.com and we found more than 144 million registered active .com domain names. Zonefiles.io <https://zonefiles.io/> also have a database and it says currently there are 144,072,905 registered .com domain names. Multiply this number by the annual .com fee and you will get a very high number. You are not supposed to be a corporation and push your profits to the maximum but rather keep the internet safe and accessible place to all. How do you justify the increase in the .com domain names price? What is this huge budget spend on? How was it possible to run the organization 10 years ago when the domain names were significantly lower amount? My opinion is that the price should not only stay the same but even decrease over time with more people buying .com domains. Many individuals rely on the internet to offer services, including freelancing, and this will just make it harder to make a living across the board. This will hurt people from the developing nations more, since their currencies are weaker against the dollar. Dear Sir/Madam, It has been my experience that annual increases to services aren't always beneficial to the end user and in the case of the .COM TLD, it is my believe that any annual increase to this TLD would seriously affect a large no of .COM users within a few very short years. The question that needs to be asked here is at what point do we stop screwing people with excessive annual rate rises because we can and because Profit is the all important goal of our over taxed, profit only focused society. In the opinion of the writer, annual rises in .COM TLD's are not necessarily desirable, however perhaps a bi-annual review might be acceptable as long as any increase was kept at a reasonable level and not applied just because you can, solely to increase profits. Greetings, I am opposed to the rate hike! 7 - 9 dollars per month for a domain name is plenty! For small business and individuals income and pay increases have not kept up with inflation for a long time. While 7-9 dollars /month doesn't sound expensive - when, added up for the entire year it adds up. By increasing the cost for a domain the cost for practically every business in the United States will increase! This will hurt small business the most. This move to increased domain prices will be a move to further push small businesses or if business and will push individual and families away from personal web sites. The domains are already being black marketed by some domain registrars, one have to research for cheapest registrar to get the right price, if one registrar gives cheap registration then he takes three time price at renewal. So customers are already being looted by these types of registrars. My opinion is, if you decide to rise the price of domains then give your time to regulate these types of renewal loots. Regards

Why would ICANN accept $20m from Verisign in what appears to be grease money to ensure they can rip off .COM registrants of BILLIONS of dollars? We registrants always expected ICANN would continue its management of legacy registries in the interests of its constituents, not aid and abet a virtual monopoly by abdictation of reasonable pricing management. I am a domain investor. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. There is obviously no stakeholder outcry to increase prices on registrants. Registrants themselves obviously don’t want to pay more. So who does the proposed price increase stand to benefit? Only Verisign. It stands to reap billions of dollars more, all paid for by registrants, and for no genuine reason whatsoever. If the proposed fee increases go into effect, by the end of the six-year agreement term, the fee for each .com domain name will increase to $10.29 per year, a 30% jump from current levels. Even conservatively assuming that in six years’ time there are only 140 million .com domain name registrants, that increase of $2.44 per year, per domain name, would result in $341,000,000 more revenue for Verisign per year. Verisign already enjoys an incredible operating margin of around 60%. By any reasonable estimation, Verisign is not suffering for lack of revenue nor is it deserving of increased revenue. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. If ICANN is to be trusted as the steward of the .COM Registry on behalf of the global public interest, ICANN must ask itself why it would effectively hand over billions of dollars in registrant money to its contracted service provider? Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price, particularly when it is already handsomely paid and others could do it for far less. As we saw with the .Org Fiasco, bad things happen when a registry operator treats the registry as an asset that belongs to it, rather than acting as a mere contracted manager. If there was ever any hope that the new gTLDs would present effective competition to .COM so that prices would naturally be constrained by market forces, the results are in and it didn’t happen. Because of Verisign’s market power, and in the absence of putting the .COM Registry out for bid, price caps are necessary to protect the public from Verisign’s ability to abuse its market power by raising prices far above levels that would exist in a market where there was effective competition. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. I want you to do so. I want you to look out for registrant interests in particular, not your service provider’s financial interests. Setting prices is a policy matter when it comes to the .COM Registry. If ICANN intended to adopt such a radical policy of permitting Verisign to set its own prices, that is a matter for stakeholders to determine, and there has never been any such policy development nor agreement among stakeholders. I am strongly opposed to any increase in domain name pricing structure, including the .COM top level domain (TLD). The proposed changes would result in increases up to 7% per year times 4 years. Other more expensive TLDs are already starting to become too expensive to keep due to escalating renewal costs. An average .com currently costs approximately $8.28 (average comparing 3 different of the top 10 domain name registrars). Increasing the .com price by 7% per year for 4 years would increase this price to $10.86. This would then raise the "renewal price" significantly above the "initial purchase" price. This increase is far in excess of wage rates. Already, regular wage earning people are finding it difficult to hold on to certain TLDs because of price escalations. Over time, the constant inflation of TLD pricing will result in an imbalance of corporate ownership, and subsequent "gentrification" of the .com TLD to the point that it displaces the common person from owning them in the long term. I urge reconsidering any regular increases in price of the .TLDs, and ask to limit such prices increases to no more than 2.5% per year. Dear ICANN Members, I am very concerned about how increasing the cost to register or renew a dotcom domain every year will impact small businesses. I'm against an increase for the following reasons: 1. An increase every year will negatively impact the profit margin of small businesses. 2. The expenses of small businesses will get out of hand as paying for registration costs in addition to ongoing web development and maintenance costs along with other business costs skyrocket in time. 3. Users of the internet will stop using the internet as small business owners began to struggle with domain payments and have to forego on keeping the domains. 4. At some point after the pricing for a dotcom domain get out of reach, community organizers will use that as a centerpiece for totally doing away with the internet and focus on going back to grassroots local businesses. 5. Increasing costs every year will create an unequal business environment and peg small business against big pocketed business even more. Apparently, the internet has created a huge amount of revenue for some small businesses. I had started a number of e-commerce websites but none of them has made me any money. But, when I go into some of the local businesses like the guy who sells insurance and see how he has prospered with usage of his insurance website, I know that it can be beneficial to a small business owner. The company VeriSign should not dictate the pricing of a domain. Clearly, it is in their self-interest to have higher prices. What is the most important is the best interest of the public. Will the public have access to content that is provided by individuals in the international community at an affordable price? The public's interest should take center stage. The concern for security, and stability are premature as ICANN and VeriSign should look into ways of cutting costs. Maybe, forego having expensive conferences. But like I said earlier, I haven't made any money with the internet. So, I presume I comment on behalf of keeping an environment of prosperity going for those small businesses who are making money because what bleakness would exist in local communities around the world if some people weren't making some of the money. I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business) or am associated with the secondary market. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. I am a registrant of many .com domain name over last 20 years, all for mostly personal use. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Dear team @ icann, I disagree and don’t accept the price increase. It’s important to protect the interests of millions of small entrepreneurs, businesses & bloggers. And continuous yearly price increase is a big threat to the internet itself. Please suspend any company from doing this & limit it to max 1% per year! In fact, I think that the price has already been high. As other registrars are decreasing price or giving discount, if the price of .Com increases, I will consider to use other domains instead of .com
