I have a few domains that I use for charitable causes, and decision taken without input from anyone else means that I will need to pay so much more for my non profit domains. Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to you, as an internet user since the early 1990's, to express my concern over the changes to the above. May I remind you of the purpose of ICANN, its importance to the internet and foundations upon which it stands? On ICANN's own website, there are words such as "multi-stakeholder model" explained as "This is a community-based consensus-driven approach to policy-making. The idea is that Internet governance should mimic the structure of the Internet itself- borderless and open to all." Are we to understand that these are just words or is ICANN flying in the face of what the internet exists for, and why? I am sure, having watched The Richard Dimbleby Lecture given by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, that he would not be an advocate of what is proposed; neither would Vint Cerf! I implore you: stand by the words on your website; build policy for a better internet, a more secure internet; lobby ISPs and registrars to adopt technologies such as DNSSEC and IPv6; embrace the community that is the internet. It’s vitally important that the internet remain a democratic environment open to all. Conducting meetings in secret in order to essentially create a monopoly with unlimited price increases and control limits the freedom of information and the ability for all to participate. Such exclusionary tactics are detrimental beyond scope. I realize when it comes to money and power, it is difficult to sway people to do the right thing for all rather than an elite few. There is enough money to be made off the internet, do not destroy it and limit its abilities by raising prices and centralizing control. I am opposed to these proposed changes. Thank you, Becky

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. Hello, I would like to voice my opposition to Proposed Amendment 3. I believe that the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The only entities that stand to benefit from the proposed arrangement are verisign itself, at the expense of the public. These price hikes will impact the millions of small, independent businesses and developers that rely on the system as is to make their livelihood. Further, this could prove yet another point of pressure that convinces a small business to make their online presence exclusively in the Facebook walled garden and eschew the web itself. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Deals such as this are an abdication of that mandate; short sighted profit chasing at the expense of all else. Please do not adopt this proposal.

Hello, I want to strongly discourage you from moving forward with Proposed Amendment 3. .COM makes up 73% of all gTLD domain names, and increasing prices for those domain names affects more people than any other. I personally use a .COM domain name, and while increasing prices may not have an impact on large companies, it very much hurts individuals and people with small businesses like myself. Having a .COM domain name makes small businesses seem more legitimate and appeals more to customers. This can often help them get off the ground compared to other domain names. With price increases, many small businesses will no longer be able to afford a .COM domain name. You are effectively limiting small businesses and individuals' ability to operate on the internet. I am a .com owner and, I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified and the average price of managing the infrastructure must certainly be diminishing over time... Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has ABSOLUTELY no business dictating the price. Dear Sirs, As a provider, Verisign has a monopoly over the attribution of the .COM domains. The agreement between ICANN and Verisign wasn't made openly and does not guarantee the freedom of use and the competitivity of the Internet for all users. The price of a domain matters when setting up a website and many small business owners or entrepreneurs who wish to set up an online business or presence, or the user who wants to create a new website to display or promote whatever he wishes to, will be prevented to do so if this agreement goes on. So, as an user of website domains, I ask you to not make that deal with Verisign and leave things as they are because it will ultimately impact very negatively the internet, its use and its freedom. As a user of ".com" domain I'm strongly disagree and very disappointed in the way you took a decision like the unjustified price increase without considering any input from Internet users on these critical decisions. In my case for example I'm an owner of a small local e-commerce in Colombia South America. All my customers doesn't have the same buying power as the ones in developed countries like USA. If I increase my prices reflecting your new policy, I won't be competitive in my market. For this reason I will have no choice than close my business and stop using my domain.
