I just heard about the secret contract ICANN has with verisign behind closed doors whereby verisign is going to support your initiatives but no one knows what those initiatives are. I as a internet user who owns multiple .com domains on my clients behalf will be impacted by the increase in price. I would happily support your initiatives provided that their long term outcome is worth the high price. However, finding myself in circumstances where I don't know what those initiatives are, I am highly sceptical of that. Therefore, I hereby leave a comment against such increase in prices and I will never opt for secret initiatives or closed door contracts where the opinion of the majority is ignored. Regards

Hello, This proposal of increasing the domain name cost is not ideal for most of the registrars (including me) as the gradual price hike already made it costly in last few years. Now, increasing the cost in 8 out of 10 years is not acceptable. It will force users to think twice before paying that much price. Ideally a gradual increase can be done in 2 to 3 years, but regular increase does not make any sense. My appeal is to not to disturb the current price structure. As you all know, the ".com" domain makes up about 70%+ of all domain names. If what is proposed is true, and .com domain prices increase, then this would mean an approximate 70% increase in cost to these domains over the course of these agreements. These changes will have a significant impact on the Internet for years to come! My favorite feature of the internet is that it levels the playing field. Once online, a single person can create a web presence that rivals even the biggest corporation's web presence, and for fairly cheaply. This presents all kinds of opportunities for people - with enough effort, a person can get onto the internet and build something interesting. A crucial part of this is having a memorable domain name, and the .com domain is easily the most popular and easy to remember. Allowing this new price-increase plan will shut out entrepreneurs. A lot of the newer generic gTLDs are prohibitively expensive, shutting out people who may not have a lot of money but have a great idea. Having a .com domain to point to is crucial for anybody starting a new business venture. Please keep the .com domain inexpensive, and don't allow Verisign to shut out new businesses. -John Regan Jr

The increase in prices is just ridiculous. It talks about improving domain infrastructure, which just does not make any sense. What actually will you improve? Is there a market for it? Have people asked for it? It's just another way for rich to grab money from the people struggling. Please kindly look for other ways to make money and stop stifling the progress the common people have made.

I have a many domain names registered for my clients and a price increase will effect my business. I also understand that prices have been the same for a long time. To whom it may concern, I am strongly opposed to the proposed .com price increase contained within the "Proposed Amendment 3 or the .COM Registry Agreement.". ICANN sets the price for .COM domains. Verisign is the sole-source supplier of .COM domain names at the wholesale level, giving them an effective monopoly. Verisign charges $7.85 per year to register or renew a .COM domain name each year. Verisign’s costs are estimated at between $2.50 to $2.90 per domain name per year. Everything above that is pure profit. Verisign already enjoys one of the highest profit margins of any company in the world. A further price increase is not justified. Yet ICANN staff want Verisign to increase prices on .COM registrants by 7% per year from the current $7.85 to $10.26 after four years. This will impose hundreds of millions of dollars of added expense on .COM registrants – simply to benefit Verisign.
