As an operator of multiple websites and app, I have lots of hosting costs to cover to ensure I can deliver the service to my customers. Most of the costs of services I use are based on the resource costs of what I and my visitors consume, with the exception of DNS Registrations, which are fixed annual costs, one size fits all... It is clear to me that the actual registration of the domain is not something that should not be growing in cost, in fact should be getting cheaper all the time due to automation. Thus any cost increase should be due to underlying infrastructure to service DNS Lookups due to web traffic. Considering that internet traffic continues to grow, I can understand that the general trend is more DNS Lookups, and thus that more infrastructure is needed to service it, thus an increase in cost. All my websites are relatively low in traffic, and I feel that paying for other people’s DNS lookups indirectly via increased DNS Registration costs is ridiculous. I’m pretty sure with the current model, the majority of DNS lookups are for mega sites like Google, Facebook, YouTube…. why should I be paying for their DNS Lookups? In fact I resent it since I already pay these parties for their services, or they get paid in terms of advertising fees. Let the cost be bourne by those who cause it, not the community as a whole. I suggest ICANN gets on the Cloud computing train and charge domain owners based on the existing DNS Registration, and then add additional charges based on the number of Lookups. It would also make sense for each user to have a universal portal account at ICANN where all domains I own can be managed independant of the intermediate (wholesale) registrants. To whom it may concern, The proposal to increase prices on .COM accounts will have huge impact on small and start up businesses. .COM becoming unaffordable will mean only the richest companies can afford to run domains ending in .COM and contribute to a 2 tier internet with the advantage going to large, wealthier players versus new start ups and small businesses. This is a comment regarding the ICANN decision to raise rates...seemingly without limits and to taking advantage of their position within the Domain Name registration world. The internet is one way that new entrepreneurs can get started. Our funds are limited and I personally will have to drop several domain names if these rate increases occur. I would ask you to consider attempting to get funds from those who grabbed exclusive names just in order to resell them as an alternate source of funds. I don't think pushing our current rates higher will benefit you in the long run. Please reconsider this. I strongly object to the amendment for .com domains: 1. Price Increases - If Verisign cannot do it at the present price, get a company who will. There are many who will eagerly take over from Verisign. 2. Verisign cannot operate as a domain registrar from it's present position without gaining an unfair advantage. Give the responsibility over another company if Verisign is so keen to become a registrar. 3. It is not a donation of $20 Million to ICANN when Verisign gains unfair privileges over other registrars, it is bribery. Is ICANN really prepared to stoop this low? It is amazing to see how "respected" people can expose their criminal minds without even considering the fact that people are not stupid and see exactly what is going on.

Dear Madam, or Sir, I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect, not just me, buy any individual who would like their own domain name. I am 100% sure that no corporation will object to the 28% cost increase every six years as they earn money off their domain name and paying almost any amount would be acceptible to them. However, there are a great deal of small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. Several of us have multiple domain names, if for no other reason than to protect our own names from being used to run a website. I personally have about 6 that I use to protect myself and my family while also allowing my children to be able to have a domain name that is exclusively theirs. 20 year Cost analysis: $ 7.85 / year 2018 $10.29 / year 2023 (31% increase over 2018) $13.49 / year 2029 (72% increase over 2018) $17.68 / year 2035 (125% increase over 2018) $23.17 / year 2041 (195% increase over 2018) I am aware that the 7% is a maximum per year for each of the four years and, theoretically, there could be no increase or a sub 7% increase some years, however, I have little faith on this being the norm and, most certainly, CANNOT plan on it being any less than the full 7% in any fiscal plans made. I understand it would be extremely difficult for you to create a regulation that would charge businesses more and individuals less, however, that may be what is required at this time. This would leave a loophole for businesses to have an individual register their domain name, however, no corporation of any size will be willing to leave their domain names in private hands. This would also allow fledgling businesses (aka startups) to keep their costs low at first. Remember, many businesses have been started in individual's garages. You may also assume that all ".com" domain names are used for, or are supposed to be used for commercial purposes, however, this is not the case today. If this had been defined and enforced from the beginning of the internet, this would be a non-issue, however, to start enforcing it today would cause many many individuals to lose their domains. Yes, there are other top level domains they can move to, however, that doesn't alleviate the fact that they would be losing an asset they had invested much time, money, and resources acquiring. Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to individuals and small businesses.
