I hear you are putting up the prices of .com domains This is not fair to us small businesses who already pay out a lot for marketing etc of our sites This will also discourage people from getting .com address and will look for alternatives If so then a change like that will affect our websites enormously if we have to change our domain names This is very sneaky and unfair I must object to this Also what will you be doing with all the extra money ???? Dear Sir, In our view, any price increase should first and foremost either reflect an actual increase in direct costs or be matched by an increase in the service level provided. In the present situation, the changes considered appear to be purely motivated by increasing profits and they have no tangible justification. As a result, we are fully opposed to these amendments. This is not an acceptable stance and such changes must be planned in consultation and agreement with the key stakeholders actually providing the DNS services to the domain name owners. This is so typical: show the money and see the bad: there is no need to agree to an unlimited price raising over decades, burden on our shoulders, the users! As many other said: not all .coms are billion dollar businesses, a good portion are self-employed and small businesses. And its even more questionable to do this in secret without letting your already registered users and buyers know about - I heard today the first time and in 3 days the comment section will be closed!! So you want to keep us quiet, right? FORGET ABOUT!!

I strongly believe that ICANN is failing to respect and maintain the freedom of internet, I would prefer an alternate Distributed authority which has no centralized control with any government, All distributed nodes must be ran by non-profit anonymous donation backed organizations with strong community driven hierarchy. So none can directly influence his/her position directly in organization by money, lobbying or government support. **************ICANN Should be broken and Monopoly must not exist.************ I use the Internet but I am not a .com registrant. Dear ICANN, Verisign, I am against the proposed price inflation of the TLD .COM. In short: keep .COM price inflation reasonable for all parties, especially for your customers. Read the many good arguments in all the threads posted. If there is any reason to raise prices, such reasons need to be clarified towards customers and again, needs to be reasonable. However, keeping price inflation in check concerning the .COM TLD (or any gTLD and ccTLD for that matter) is also in your, the provider's, best interest. The more discontent customers get, to more reason you give them to create and use alternatives, which could be a serious threat to your business model in the long run. Last month, ICANN, the organization that oversees domain names, announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). ICANN made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action, we are focused on leading the fight against price increases that will harm our customers (and the Internet as a whole). This is a crucial time to raise our voices given that .COM domains make up 40% of all registered domain names online. What does this change mean? Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don’t stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. Hello, as a Computer Science student and owner of several .com domain, I am not in favor of this planned amendment. Since it allows a price hike for domains, which might render them unaffordable for students like me, I'd prefer to keep the rules as they are and figure out another way to improve security and the infrastructure, without massively increasing the prices. I hope my and other people's comment can sway the decision process away from the current form of this amendment, especially the article allowing an increase of the price. Regards, Jan Scheiper

I am disappointed to learn today that over the next 10 years we could see massive domain name price increases. It should be the case that domain names are accessible to everyone, by increasing the prices it could end up to a point where only large companies or organisations would be able to afford these making the domains hard to get for the normal folks out there that just have a dream. Please reconsider these proposals for the benefit of everyone and a healthy future in .com domain names.

Hi I am responding to protest in your proposed increase prices on domain names for the next 10 years. It does not make sense to do so as this will impede openness of the internet. Hello, I’m writing about the proposed amendment 3 to the .COM Registry. I understand this amendment will permit Verisign to significantly raise prices on the sale of .COM domains. I am concerned that this move reflects the trend of small/independent Web producers being unable to compete with large firms. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. If prices of domains are going to increase, I ask for full transparency of why the cost would be increased. Those of us whom own domains should understand exactly what is going on. At the end of the day, domains are arbitrary addresses with little overhead to manage so increasing their cost drastically seems unnecessary and driven only by greed.
