I 100% reject the increase in .com domains. There is no reason for the increase that would be considered justifiable other than increasing profits. This higher cost would restrict access to creating personal domains due to increasing costs for people who may not be able to cover such increases and that goes against what the world wide web is for! ------------------------------ Dear Madam, or Sir, I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect, not just me, buy any individual who would like their own domain name. I am 100% sure that no corporation will object to the 28% cost increase every six years as they earn money off their domain name and paying almost any amount would be acceptible to them. However, there are a great deal of small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. Several of us have multiple domain names, if for no other reason than to protect our own names from being used to run a website. I personally have about 6 that I use to protect myself and my family while also allowing my children to be able to have a domain name that is exclusively theirs. 20 year Cost analysis: $ 7.85 / year 2018 $10.29 / year 2023 (31% increase over 2018) $13.49 / year 2029 (72% increase over 2018) $17.68 / year 2035 (125% increase over 2018) $23.17 / year 2041 (195% increase over 2018) I am aware that the 7% is a maximum per year for each of the four years and, theoretically, there could be no increase or a sub 7% increase some years, however, I have little faith on this being the norm and, most certainly, CANNOT plan on it being any less than the full 7% in any fiscal plans made. I understand it would be extremely difficult for you to create a regulation that would charge businesses more and individuals less, however, that may be what is required at this time. This would leave a loophole for businesses to have an individual register their domain name, however, no corporation of any size will be willing to leave their domain names in private hands. This would also allow fledgling businesses (aka startups) to keep their costs low at first. Remember, many businesses have been started in individual's garages. You may also assume that all ".com" domain names are used for, or are supposed to be used for commercial purposes, however, this is not the case today. If this had been defined and enforced from the beginning of the internet, this would be a non-issue, however, to start enforcing it today would cause many many individuals to lose their domains. Yes, there are other top level domains they can move to, however, that doesn't alleviate the fact that they would be losing an asset they had invested much time, money, and resources acquiring. Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to individuals and small businesses

ICANN's proposed fee hike is in bad faith. It was done in secret without incorporating feedback from the community. It seems to be an exercise of monopolistic power in exchange for a $20M payment from Verisign.

Morning, It has come to my knowledge that the price of .com domains will increase exponentially with the new (secret) deal with verisign. I run a small web development company and if this happens I will struggle to offer my clients a good service as probably most of them will opt to choose a different domain name without .com at the end. Also the SEO strategies will be highly compromised if this happens. I would really appreciate if this could be solved accordingly taking into account the users of those domains without increasing the prices rapidly. Regards, PCGWebDev.

Dear ICANN Representative, I would like to state that allowing Verisign to increase .COM domain prices cannot be justified. As you know, the TLD .COM is the most popular choice ever since the dawn of public internet. It is like the necessary raw material to build and work on the internet. And like many other such issues like Net neutrality, this centralisation of power will not go well with the rest of the internet, i.e., the individuals and small businesses that make the internet useful and diverse. It is the first time in the history of communication that the world can connect easily with each other. The Internet liberalised doing business and expressing oneself. It needs to be this only, a medium of free and open communication. And the .COM is the heart of the internet, the most recognizable and go-to choice for all kinds of people and businesses, big or small. And .COM is not a product which can be improved or modified to charge higher prices. A company needs to keep improving the product if they want to increase the prices or come up with new products to sell. Sure, I admit ICANN and Verisign have to maintain infrastructure for running all this. You can just simply charge us for that. We already pay ICANN fees directly. Please do not allow Verisign to increase the price of .COM domain names. ICANN should be supporting and protecting consumers. You are letting these price increases happen in exchange for a cut of the profits, when you should be supporting an open internet. You unilaterally decided to remove price caps on .org and .biz domain names, despite public comments express the contrary. You clearly no longer represent what's good for the American public, just yourselves. Shame on you!

Maybe because in this case, most of us are captive market customers, we don't deserve much consideration, right?

Dear ICANN, I own multiple .com domains and I find that the proposed removal of price caps is, like with the .org initiative a clear move to use your position of monopoly and abuse your position of monopoly to make more money. This whole process seems to be a facade, as you were provided with comments against the .org price cap changes and received an avalanche of comments against it and did nothing. It also seems completely abhorrent to allow Verisign to become a registrar this a complete abuse of position by you and for them. It mainly looks like you are using your position to use us domain owners to finance yourselves rather than renogiate the contract with other companies than Verisign to gain the revenue you expect from this deal with Verisign. This is an outrageous new rule that will allow Verisign to charge customers a whole lot more for domain names, at the cost of absolutely no improvement to the infrastructure or service. Wholly unacceptable.

Hi, I’m writing to raise my concerns about the increase in price of the .com domain as suggested. My first issue is that you did not even seek the participation of current registrars to share their views in the recommended price increases you propose. This indicates that there is something you do not want the public to know about this dealing and the fact that you will be receiving an extra $20,000,000 from Verisign, just makes this whole deal smell very fishy. Second, have you taken any thought on how many businesses and individuals you will affect all over the world with your price increases. This will make it hard for registrars and the end users to keep up with the fluctuating prices every year an in turn I can almost predict with vindication that there will be a drop in the number of .com domains registered. I urge you to rethinking your price increase and let us support more domain registrations which will in effect get you the outcome you require for your increased revenue. Wilson Muroki. As a Small Business Owner, our business' livelihood and family's livelihood depends on our customers being able to easily find our websites under the .COM domain. It is difficult enough to run a small business as it is and fear that the price increases will force us to have to change our domain name, leading to loss of revenue in addition to difficulty with new customer acquisition. The ripple of ICANN's proposed changes will be detrimental to many small businesses across the United States, including my own. We strongly oppose any price increases to .COM domains and disapprove of ICANN's handling of this issue without consulting internet users. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Regards, LC
