These proposed unrestricted price increases are unfair for people who are just getting by and using the internet for a supplemental income. I may have to continue to to work for an additional 5 to 10 years because the cost of living is out or control. The only people who can afford anything without our worries are the rich. Nobody likes to hear prices are going up. However, after reading some of the other comments I notice a lot of domainers are opposing this, and frankly if people are holding domain names simply to make money then I do not have a lot of sympathy for their case. On the other hand, home businesses that need a website will find the increasing yearly cost a pain. Not a large pain but everything adds up. I notice that already a lot of local businesses simply use Facebook pages rather than having a dedicated web site. It seems to me that for people who need a domain and want to keep it then the price should be locked or discounted. So that if someone buys for 5 years they get a much lower price than someone who renews annually. This 5 years discount should of course be non-transferable and non-refundable. Basically protect those who need a name for their business versus those who buy and sell domains for a profit. I have already started allowing my domain names to relapse. I had several for different business ideas and although the names were good and suitable I already felt that paying for domain names that I wasn’t using much was an expense I did not need. So I am pruning back. If the price of .com domains rises too high I might drop the .com domains completely and simply use .co.uk or other alternatives. Dear Sir/Madam, I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect, not just me, but as an individual who would like their own domain name or who want to be a domainer. However, please see that small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. As an individual and soon going to be a startup, i want to keep my costs low. If you start enforcing it today would cause many many individuals like me to lose their domains. If it's there from the start, it would not have caused much issue now. Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to at least individuals, startups and small businesses. Dear ICANN representative, I am writing in regards to the proposal to give Verisign Corp. exclusive rights to .com domain registry from a wholesale perspective. In addition, the proposal is to allow Verisign to raise the wholesale price more than 70% over the next decade. I think this increase is too high, and will be expensive for small scale, hobbyist web developers such as myself. I have 3 .com domains now, and this will be a significant cost increase for me. It is not easy to change to a cheaper TLD, when I already have an investment in the .com space. I don't see that the price increase is commensurate with the cost of providing the service. Please reconsider this very steep price increase, and either keep it at the current levels, or significantly reduce the rate of increase, to promote participation by regular folks like me. Dear Sir/Madan We hope the said proposal, which we believe will go ahead, will only be looked at from the eyes of the end user and not of business gain. Our line of though is if a system or process works well, then don’t change it. Yet if change is necessary then it has to be for the greater good of all not just a few organizations. A static price is good to ensure prices are not inflated to meet business targets but protect end user interests. If it means increased security at no added costs, then all the better. You will benefit by attracting more satisfied end users. We hope no matter what is decided, controlling organization will look at the best interests of SME’s that hold a greater share to that of large corporations. I do not agree with the pricing changes/funding/lack of transparency of the Verisign deal. Please do not proceed with this closed-door deal that will affect so many customers, small businesses, artists, and more. Please restrain increases on wholesale pricing, or limit the mark up dealers can add to domains, or skip the middle men altogether and allow people to buy domains directly from you at wholesale pricing. ICANN, Please adopt price controls on .COM and other original TDLs. I run a small web development & hosting company part-time and many of the sites I build are for disadvantaged and/or low-income persons who are using their domains to promote small business efforts. These are yoga instructors, independent contractors, seniors, students, artists and musicians -- all of whom enjoy the legitimacy of having a dedicated space on the Internet to promote themselves and their contributions to society. I enjoy giving them something to be proud of. I often treat my web development company like a charity and eat a lot of the costs, specifically, I maintain ownership of the domains so my tech-illiterate clients don't have to be bothered with the burden of keeping them registered (for example, a friend lost her domain name and it took three years to get it back). Some of these domains I've had for nearly 20 years, a long time since I received payment for the web site they still use. The slow creep of prices is making it difficult to continue what I think is a valuable service to my community. This year is the first time I have released domain names because I can't afford it. These domains, if my clients allow them to expire, will be basically gone forever, swallowed up by domain squatters and ransomed off. Please help me continue to make the Internet a place for everyone, not just giant corporations. Please adopt price controls on common TLDs. Thank you, Brian Hilmers

I’m writing to share my comments regarding the price increases that will occur due to the ICANN contract changes with VeriSign. As a fine artist, I have a .com website that I use to publicize my paintings. My income from my painting career is limited, however the time I put into this career path is immense, and my website is one of my main ways of communicating my work to potential viewers, gallerists, and peers. It’s my way of maintaining a conversation with other artists and sharing the work that I do. The kind of price increases that are guaranteed to occur because of this revised contract have me severely worried, because a major increase to the cost of my domain would force me out and inhibit my ability to communicate with my peers and to grow my career. I strongly urge icann to reconsider these changes and to think about domain users like me with limited funds but extensive cultural impact. Thank you for your time.
