I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market [1]. Greetings, I am an individual, who purchased a .com domain for my UX -Information Architecture design portfolio. The site provides examples of my past work and methods around the management of information. It is not a retail or ecommerce site. The url is https://www.laurinda-alcorn.com. I am sure there are many other individuals out there, who own a .com name. An increase in wholesale pricing would likely to be reflected by my domain registrar, Namecheap. This will be distressing for me, as the proposed increase in wholesale pricing is greater than the likely rate of inflation. Please consider the impact to individuals like me. Internet name usage with tld .COM have been made an utility that every business and working person need to have in this digital age. How come you raise the price higher and higher after the usage have been steadily increasing since the beginning of the internet? It's as if you would raise water prices because people could use less of it. That's not an option for any size businesses! Please stop this lobying and don't make any more hustles for SMB's as it's already a big hustle to compete online.

To whom this may concern, I wish you first off say thank you for all the work that has been done to this point. While I'm not sure what is in the works for the "bigger, better and faster" that 20 million dollars might require (!!) but I want to remind you that you have enabled many more small businesses and independent organizations, in communicating with their audiences. Some of those small entities will not be able to afford (let alone plan for) domain registration increases. This would seem a very unfortunate loss to the online world. Loss of the heartbeat of innovation and keeping it human. If it comes down to it, I can fold up my domain and communicate through a service that can afford to pay whatever reg costs there might be. But each time that happens, it takes a little spark out of the magic of the internet as a whole. Please don't price the little guy, out. Hello, The increase being proposed is a clear and viable threat to small businesses 31% is high considering most companies will not see growth at this rate, I understand the costs of doing and costs increase but 31% is high especially when you add the cost increases of rent,computer systems,lights,heat and wages to name a few, the cost of starting and running a business is very expensive. ICANN must understand that the .com gTLD is an asset for everyone, in the public interest and for everyone. Greetings... I am a Domain investor and I more than 120 .com domain names registered with me. The proposed price hikes are unjustified to anyone but it is hugely beneficial for Verisign. removing price cap and increasing prices is a very unpopular method and can be factor to leave .com and try other options for millions of domains. ICANN is supposed to think of public interest..in this scenario there is no hint of such thing. you need to act according to public opinion and get back your reputation. I am a .com registrant and I strongly oppose the proposed price increases in .com domain names. I also represent all my clients here in Greece that are also owners of .com domain names. I am writing this comment with full knowledge that I will be ignored by ICANN. This comment period parody that ICANN has built only legitimizes their predetermined corrupted decisions. Comments, just like with .org where 3,200 comments were ignored, will once again be ignored. Verisign will get permission to print money through the .com price increases while ICANN gets some spare change from Verisign as a gift for their "services". Billions of dollars will flow from the global economy to the pockets of Verisign employees and shareholders without any real economy justification. The cost of maintaining the .com registry is going down while Verisign remains the domain name monopoly that it is. Verisign is running the .com registry at a cost of below $3 per domain name while charging $7.85. Apparently that is not enough for ICANN. $3 is already an inflated price. If the .com registry contract was put up for a public bid, as it should, then the cost would drop $2 and could even approach $1 per domain name. How does ICANN justifies a 30% price increase over 4 years on domain names that cost so little to maintain and operate? Oh wait. ICANN said that their are not price regulators. But yes they are. They always were price regulators of the WHOLESALE pricing. They are not regulators of the RETAIL pricing. ICANN was always setting a maximum wholesale price on all legacy TLDs like .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz. Only 2 months ago did it change its tune and started saying they are not price regulators. ICANN is a price regulator of legacy domain names just like every country in the world regulates the pricing of its own ccTLD. Of course the 30% price increase is just the beginning. .Com domain names will keep increasing year after year, squeezing money from unprotected registrants all over the world. Verisign's monopoly violates people's rights all over the world. I hope governments from countries all over the world get involved to stop this theft. ICANN is now working for their registry friends instead of doing their job that is protecting the public from unjustified price increases. ICANN people are just doing anything so as not to lose their bonuses and to secure their next high paying job at one of the registries they help get richer. Biggest example is Fadi Chehade, former Chief Executive Officer of ICANN, that is now consulting for Donuts that has over 200 new domain extensions and also consulting for the potential buyers of .org. ICANN removed the price caps on .org domains despite public outrage. Now ICANN is being investigated by the California Attorney General. Verisign is one of the most profitable companies in the world with some of the highest profit margins ever observed. People all over the world are not working to pay the Verisign tax that ICANN imposes on them. Stop the .com price increase now! There is no obvious reason to support carte blanche fee increases. First, there are no qualifications provided for cost increases such as increased costs. Second, giving a monopoly authorization to blanket increase rates on a continual basis with no justification, oversight or market alternatives is essentially an attack on free economy. This is all a terrible idea that benefits only Verisign. There are real long term ramifications to open and equal global internet that will be caused by this policy.

Dear people, It seems like you are looking into commercializing the internet domain names as much as possible, but that should not be your goal. You should serve the public in general and make the registration of domain names possible with the smallest of profit margins. If you are a Not For Profit organization, you should take great care that individuals and other organizations don't profit at the expense of the general public. Anything beyond this is oligarchy, monopolizing a resource that should be public, and eventually corruption.
