The registration costs of .COM domains are already significant enough. In order to maintain a free and open internet, where any person can afford a domain, prices should not be raised any higher than they are already. Additionally, no suitable justification was given as to the reasoning behind the ICANN-Verisign deal, leading me to believe that this was another cash-grab attempt.

I think this proposal goes into to wrong way because it will end in an increase of fees to the registrars and then to the customers. Some statistics show it might increase cost to up to 70% in the next 10 years. .com is a great way to make the internet safer as it a great solution to spot serious domains and websites. Almost every big company is using a .com which means more security and less scams. If the fee increase, more and more people will start using less common extensions and this will make the web unsafe because scammers will be harder to spot and unfair because big companies will still own .com domains and small companies will look unsafe because they made a choice based on this wrond decision. Icann does a great job and need money to run its operations but this is not a great way to do it. Keep .Com low so you will keep the web Fair and secure. I don't believe I could afford. Com domains anymore if it raise too much and I don't think I'm the only one.

Internet should be accessible and affordable for new and growing entrepreneurs no matter where they are. Greetings, I have been using the internet basically since its introduction to the public. The value it has brought is through the democratization of knowledge, information, and more. If there is one thing that history has taught us is that the moment one person, one company, one organization, to claim too much control, too much power, that democratization is, at best, put in jeopardy. By enabling VeriSign to have such control... and the ability to increase prices as they see fit... they become a limiting factor to those of us who which to have a site with a .COM domain. I have such a site. I don’t make money from it, but it is a way for me to share my work, my passion, my dreams, with others. Unlike in the old days, we have to by a number of domains just to protect ourselves and our identity. If such prices were enacted, I could be priced out of owning some or all of those domains. Controls that limit such actions must be implemented. This deal should not happen. ICANN has a responsibility to all of us in keeping the Internet open and accessible to everyone who wants to have a website. In this case, by not making this deal, and by putting protections in place to prevent such deals and such moves to gain unfair control over the Internet. Regards, Michael Brodt

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Verisign is has a monopoly on .com registrations. It is an unfair abuse of power for the price to go up so much when the actual cost of providing the service continues to decline.

I would not support this in any form or fashion with unending rising fees and ZERO accounting for the increased fees collected. I will request/ demand a much smaller total increase (with a cap) of course smaller increments. This must as well be accompanied with an open accounting of who, where and for what this money would be used for. Certainly not a blanket equipment/ service upgrade statement. As a small business owner who performs all of my sales online, this is just one more thing that will hurt my business. If you increase the price of the .com domains, it will force those of us who have a domain in this area to seek other domain name extensions, causing confusion for our customers. Even if you were to provide a free forwarding service, all the work that has gone into becoming established and trusted under the .com domain will go out the window once I and others are forced to seek cheaper domain name extensions. Customers will wonder if they are really at the right landing page and this will not promote customer confidence. My pre-printed business cards will be useless as well as my stationery. All affiliate links and other supporting advertising will be broken. Making this change will cost more than just your increase in price to every .com business person out there and will also hit the free market economy in a very bad way. Regarding Proposed Amendment 3: Respectfully, please do not allow .COM price increases. Verisign expects at least $1.125 billion revenue in 2020 even without price increases. Thanks to the significant upgrades in web technology and database management, both the .COM and .NET registries could be profitably managed for less than half the cost. The leadership of ICANN should reject any measures that harm small businesses and entrepreneurs. Under the proposed changes, within 10 years, .COM domains could cost approximately 70% more than the current price of $7.85. This is neither consumer nor business friendly. Reject this amendment.

I do not support the agreement made between ICANN and Verisign. This seems to be all about money for both parties and very little about the .com registry or all of the people that rely on it. Both the money going to ICANN and the proposed increases by Verisign seem very unreasonable to me. Also the whole agreement seems to have been done out of the publics eye, ostensibly because ICANN and Verisign knew it would look bad, and it does. Please stop this money grab by both parties now and think about what is good for the average person instead of your big business.

Hello, I have been informed that last month, ICANN announced significant changes to the contract it has with Verisign, Inc. who operate the .COM top-level-domain (TLD). Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 year. I've been told that this will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. If there is truth to this, I want to share that I strongly discourage an agreement that allows for this drastic increase in price for .com users.
