Dear ICANN, It is totally unfair for everyone involved that you made an agreement in secret with VeriSign to make the increase on .COM domains without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. These price increases will harm Internet users (and the Internet as a whole). There has been No clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. These changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come and only ICANN and VeriSign have participated in this decision. This is VERY Wrong and should not be implemented without Internet users having an input, without all of us neither ICANN or VeriSign would be in business. Cordially

Keeping domain names affordable is very important, especially in enabling the common man/woman in pursuing the freedom of commerce and creativity. This is even more important for folks living in developing countries. Please re-consider this. I’m SERIOUSLY against the proposed price increase of .COM domains. No one other than Verisign wants increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry and has no business dictating the price. It already makes profits at current price levels in excess of the operating needs to maintain a registry. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the PUBLIC interest. The public has a vested interest in reasonably priced domain registrations to foster innovation on the internet and allow the individuals to maintain a presence on the web. While the increased cost may be manageable for corporations, individuals and small businesses will have difficulty shouldering this unexpected cost. Many individuals do not making a profit through their domains. The cost of starting new businesses would also become more prohibitive, particularly as most businesses do not profit in their first few years. This decision would impact thousands of individuals and I urge you to consider the negative impact on individuals and small businesses. It is my view that the increasing of .COM domain pricing should not be done for two reasons: 1. Technology costs are going down. If anything, prices should be slashed. 2. Decision to make price changes should not be lead by private entities like Verisign. If we allow this, where will we draw the line? Furthermore, as the maintenance of Internet and all its infrastructure has become a global interest, it should not be governed by entities within a single country. ICANN should be replaced by some organization under the United Nation's purview. Hello, I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market [1]. It's simply not right to allow them to raise prices at this time. [1] For example, Alphabet, a highly successful player in a very high-margin industry, has an operating margin of around 25%. Verisign's operating margin is over 2.75 times that. -Dane Kouttron

To whom this may concern, I'm writing to express my frustration with the news of the new amendment of .com TLD which will allow significant price increases. It's particularly frustrating because the negotiations for this amendment seems to have been behind closed doors and seem to be pay-to-play (Verisign is offering 20 million!!). As an owner of a half a dozen .com domains, this increase will be costly for me. I'll have to reconsider holding on to so many domains and I'm sure many will do the same. This can cause the price increase benefits to backfire - similar to the gas tax price increase in NJ which saw declining revenue because out of state commuters stopped purchasing gas in NJ due to the increase. I hereby request that no price increases shall be instituted, rather the price freeze should stay in place. Thank you, Baruch Blaustein

I'm disappointed and oppose the recent changes ICANN announced with its contract with Verisign Inc. The process was not transparent and did not include end users' interests whose cost are anticipated to increase by at least 70%. There should be price caps and virtual community land trusts in order to keep the internet accessible to all without huge barriers to entry, to keep true to the vision of internet pioneers as an open community. Please reconsider and represent the people, all people.

It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet."* By definition, how can ICANN be ICANN if you are allowing these price increases for your or for other's profit, your benefit?
