I acknowledge that there needs to be a proper process for adjusting .com prices. However, 7 percent in each of the final four years of each six-year period is far too high. It sets a dangerous precedent for rapidly increasing costs. Downstream impacts will include a reduction in individuals buying .com domains, negative effects on entrepreneurship, and an ultimate devalue of the internet. Please reconsider this proposal. I totally oppose to the raising of .com prices. Technology costs are decreasing and .COM incresing? It makes absolutely no sense. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Deals such as this are an abdication of that mandate; short sighted profit chasing at the expense of all else. Please do not adopt this proposal. Juan Ortiz

Hello, When people said " Print is dead" newspapers and magazines did not increase ad placement price hence being detrimental to their own existence. With the advent apps, domains in general became less attractive, increasing domain registration price could make potential domain buyers to shy away and come up with apps with good recall value without necessarily owning a domain . It is a fact that .com has a place of its own but why kill hen that laid the eggs. Thanks, Charlie M.

To Whom it May Concern The current move to allow Verisign to increase wholesale prices to domain registrars every year for the next 8 years will make it much harder for small businesses to keep domains registered. These prices will be passed on to the end users (customers of registrars) and over time, will make it economic only for the largest corporations to hold the worlds domains. Another way for ole sleazy corporate America to stick it to the little guy. What a ridiculous and cowardly way to increase pricing without public acknowledgement. Not only have we become a brick and mortar store of just a few corporate businesses that has shut down just about every small business across the country. But you now want your part in taking down small online businesses too? What a joke. Shameful and deceitful. 70% increase? Yearly increases for up to the next 10 years? Nice way to put yourself out of business and open doors for your position to be replaced..

I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market [1]. It's simply not right to allow them to raise prices at this time. - Piotr [1] For example, Alphabet, a highly successful player in a very high-margin industry, has an operating margin of around 25%. Verisign's operating margin is over 2.75 times that.

There is a difference between making a profit and raking everyone else over the coals. There is a difference between taking advantage of your connections and operating a business with some integrity. Sadly, this entire money grab is lacking of both of the latter. There is no need to gauge everyone by another 40%. No need. This is just registration! You're not even providing a service! To Whom it may concern, As a long time citizen of the internet, I do not understand the need to remove price caps from registry management services managed by VERISIGN. Verisign currently has a 47.76% net profit margin and 2017 revenue of over 1 Billion. Clearly the cost of maintaining the .COM registry is not impacting VERISIGN's ability to turn a profit or grow their business. Providing provisions for price increases increases the cost of doing business for all registries and domain name registrants, and is simply free $$ for VERISIGN a company, that does not need any more revenue. Given that VERISIGN paid $20 million for this privilege of increasing register fees, I'd suggest you ask for far more $$. They can afford it. I oppose the increase in .com price increases resulting from the contract change with Verisign. The cost increases will certainly be passed on to domain name owners, increasing costs for large and small businesses alike. These costs will be passed on to consumers. The way the contract is structured assures that there will be increases annually for 8 of the next ten years. That is unacceptable, particularly in light of the fact that these changes were made in secret without input from the ICANN community or Internet users. I urge you to reconsider the contract. I don't find your decision and cost increase impacts behind closed doors to be a transparent and beneficial behavior of the organization's that .coms have looked to to manage the internet's best interests. It is wrong and corrupt that you have gone behind our backs to squeeze from us, your end users, unfair and lavish increase of fees year after year to line your pocket without any comissorating benefit or recompense to all of us who have funded you since this market opened. Instead you just bleed our money from us until we no longer have heart to continue. I don't know how I can survive with such backstabbing market at its head. I will indeed defend what is rightfully mine to use without coercion or shakedown from self-serving profiteers!
