I'm opposed to the amendment both in form and how it was developed in secrecy. ICANN made these changes in secret, without consulting or incorporating feedback from the ICANN community or Internet users. Although ICANN has a history of making similar deals behind closed doors, and also of ignoring unified opposition against such action, we are focused on leading the fight against price increases that will harm our customers (and the Internet as a whole). This is a crucial time to raise our voices given that .COM domains make up 40% of all registered domain names online. I support a free market where services find a fee structure that aligns with their value. Granting a monopoly and allowing regular fee increases with no increase in service does not sit well with me. I run a few small scale websites for the general benefit of my community. I do this out of my own pocket with no revenue stream despite the .com domain. Ridiculous fees will only squash that kind of public generosity. Morgan Hall

Hello, I've been informed of Prop 3 and the liberties it is granting to Verisign to raise the prices of .com domains for 8 out of the next ten years. That's outrageous and this screams anti-trust, because we as tax-paying, entrepreneurial citizens (THE BACKBONE OF THE ECONOMY) are virtually powerless to stop this type of action. This is my voice. This is my message. I am against this overreach of power and am firmly against Prop 3. In order to rally any support, there must be measures for expenditure transparency. Please don't sell us out. As a small business owner every cost hits hard, and raising .com registration prices disproportionately hits small businesses and everyday people much harder than the big multinational companies for whom this wouldn’t even be a drop in the bucket. In the long-term it leads to a less democratic internet that’s only for the big guys, crowding out all of the small and more interesting services and, well, everything else we all love about the internet. Please keep these thoughts in mind before making a secret deal with Verisign that I’m sure will mainly be to their benefit but to the detriment of literally everyone else in the world. So I got this email from Namecheap, pointing out all the metrics as to what ICANN and Verisign are about to do to the world of domain owners, particularly .com owners. This seems so greedy and ruthless to remove caps on prices just cause there could be more money. If the prices keep going up on .com domains I think there are tons of people who blog that will have to rethink the value of what they have at their websites and I would have to remove all my sites because of the rising costs. It is just a shame that the freedom of choosing a domain name under .com is about to turn into an expensive undertaking, many many websites will cease to exist and those customers will be lost forever. Where you would get the rich to remain, tons of websites may shut down and you may loose huge numbers of paying customers, don't see the wisdom in that. As I am trying to learn to grow my eCommerce website into a nice eBay alternative where I could just sell from my own, I never even gave it any thought when buying the theme and plugins needed, that one day we won't believe how much it is going cost yearly for the name. This just saddens me, I have been writing to www.jonpfox.com for several years now and enjoy not a ton but some pretty good visitors, I would have to take years of work down because everything offered there is free. Now after reading about this information from Namecheap I am saddened, so sick of greediness in this world, just makes it harder and harder for an average site owner to want to continue. Please keep price caps and stop wanting to be trillionaires. I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I own a small business and a rate hike of over 30% for this service is outrageous. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. this move will hamper small independent start ups globally and stifle economic progress and innovation. It also makes our global economic system less resilient and more prone to market collapses. not to mention undermining current business that are already struggling. transparency and consultation in such a major decision that effects the global marketplace is essential. this latest news is very disheartening.

To whom it may concern: I am writing to register my opposition to the proposed amendment. The proposed amendment allows for .COM wholesale domain prices grow by more than 70% over current prices over the next ten years, also allowing for other price differences. This is an unacceptable way to handle the most popular domain name by far, and will lead to detrimental effects for many businesses. Your deal with VeriSign was made in secret and as an organisation overseeing domain names as a whole it is unacceptable to be so considerably opaque in your dealings. I am urging you to reconsider this amendment and balance the rights of Internet users over those of large corporations. Thank you.

I as an owner of several .COM domains, I am opposed to such large and unreasonable price increases that have no meaningful caps or limitations. Give that the current system basically allows Verisign to act almost as a monopoly, this action seems not to be in the general public interest and will have an outsized effect on non-business owners of .COM domains such as myself.'
