Decisions supporting such a large set of domain names across the web should never be made without proper community involvement and support. I own multiple .com domain names for family-oriented (not business or profit-based) websites and will be greatly impacted by a continual cost increase over the next decade. I'm writing to express concern about: 1. the closed door nature of the changes to .COM domain pricing, 2. lack of transparency and planning on how the nonprofit intends to spend the proposed income increase, 3. adjustments of special privilege for VeriSign to operate as a registrar which does not appear to be a fair and equitable decision, and 4. the continued act of disregarding feedback from the internet community. ICANN is in the position to greatly affect the fairness and equality of the internet community, and we users depend on morally just and wise decisions. am a registrant of many .com domain name over last 20 years, all for mostly personal use. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.

The information about the changes on your work plan is understandable, however ignore the participation of the people to make decisions are against the open data initiatives allowing unscrupulous people to propose and approve things that probably are ethically wrong. Also the continuous increase in the cost of the domains could limit the possible acquisition of those, limiting the opportunity to create new websites to bring information to the people. I think you could launch an call for proposals in order to create a more fair and valid proposal to cover all points you have been tried and include missing points of view. Hi ICANN, I am writing to express my concern and frustration about what's going to affect Namecheap (my domain name provider) and other domain name registrars due to your secret contract deal with Verisign. The changes to the .com agreement will have a huge cost impact to start up business like mine. This will be unprecedented. It is unfair that consumers (including myself) have not been consulted prior to your decision making. The extra $20 million that you are going to receive from Verisign - how do you propose to spend the money and how are the consumers going to benefit from that? Couldn't and shouldn't ICANN be sensible enough to sign a deal which prevents indefinite increase of price to domain names, upfront and out loud with Verisign? Please help. Hi, Thank you for the comment period first off. I think, with the majority of people submitting comments, that the price increase of the .com TLD will cause more harm than good. With expanded branded domains, there’s finally a reason not to necessarily need a .com TLD for commerce sites. This means there will be less competition for names in the .com space due to many getting the name desired without having to pay someone squatting the name they may have wanted with absurd prices along with renewal fee’s on top of that. All this will do is hasten even more to flock to branded domains because the price increases being unreasonable for no apparent reason. It will ultimately make .com less attractive as time goes on. What’s new today will be old tomorrow and the same applies to this instance especially when it costs more. Regards, max

The wholesale price of domains should not be determined in secret and be allowed to increase year after year. Most importantly, I do not support a .COM price increase. Against unfair and excessive price increases to .com registrars. While a small price increase to keep up with inflation and help fund further infrastructure is understandable, 70% is unnecessary and unreasonable.
