Don't know if this comment will have any effect on ICAAN decision making, since ICAAN completely ignored the comments on the .org fiasco when 98% of the comments were negative in regards to their actions. This decision to raise prices 7% a year to basically line the pockets of one company is ridiculous. A $1billion dollar revenue increase to up one company's bottom line and ICAAN only gets $20mill out of it? Pretty shady. -- Jack Heape

I do not agree with .com price increase. This is unfair to all their customers. We all know that having a website is not cheap, there are additional costs to having and maintaining a website such as hosting services, security certification, content management systems and time invested. Domains serve the purpose of allowing individuals to share helpful information across the world from their own personalized website at an affordable low price as it is now. Bumping up the price will make it less accessible and more expensive for us. There are many informational websites such as Wikipedia that are free and run off donations to keep the website live, these websites teach us valuable information and to increase the domain price is a slap on their face. It it unclear in the amendment on how the money that Verisign agreed to pay ICANN will be spent and who will ensure the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. It is interesting to know that this amendment rose after President Trump has addressed in the State of The Union that we will be implementing high speed internet across the country and in rural areas. So why the price increase when most likely there will be an increase use of website users? It sounds like a greedy business move to me. As a customer, professional web developer and web surfer, this is why I strongly disagree with the .com price increase.

This is a classic government land grab. While big companies won't bat an eye at the price increase, you are going to hurt the smaller individual who increasingly scrapes by in this unfair United States system. Smaller people will be squeezed of their original names, so the big companies can swoop in and feast. Again: big company vs. individual. Lots of people don't want to get super rich, they jusy want to enjoy life with their families. Shame on you! You must live pretty comfortable lives! Adam Goldstein

This proposed fee increase hurts one group of people above all others. The poor. No longer can a poor person start a website and make a real mark in the world; be it through the launch of a public service website, a helpful educational website or even a commercial one. To the wealthy, this cost is easy to eat. However, it may keep many idea and perspectives from those without the back of huge funds out of the conversation. Further, without an explanation of where those new funds will be going and to what end they will benefit ICANN, one can only assume that those too will benefit the rich as well. This cash grab is not only bad for the internet, they are bad for the world. If you ever wanted to encourage the poor of the world to form unions, investigate closer or to dig into all the processes of ICANN that we have entrusted you were operating in good faith, this action would be it. There are ways to seek retribution legislatively, diplomatically and through processes that exist now. There are also ways to change today’s processes to better benefit EVERYONE. Those processes will be used to attack those responsible for this cash grab should these new rates go through. I am a proud NAMECHEAP customer holding two dozen names. Having to turn in even one of these names so that someone at ICANN gets richer while my hard work is forcible transferred to another rich person will launch news articles you never dreamt of. I’ll be one of the hundreds of new activists writing them. PLEASE, for you own sake, cancel this obvious cash grab and withdraw the proposed amendment 3 to raise rates on the poorest users of ICANN. I don't think the price should be raised because so many people are using .com that there is profits being made and the only reason for a price increase is greed! If the price is raised then there needs to be a lot perks added, like a higher price will include hosting also etc. What you get right now for the price is not worth paying more and if the price increase happens then hopefully everyone will use something other than .com! There is no reason for a price increase for this service. Thanks

The cost of registering .com domain names needs to remain affordable for all or the internet loses its ability to meet its purpose to be accessible by all. The cost of maintaining the .COM registry does not rise linearly as the number of registered domains increase. Therefore, increasing the cost of each individual registration at a time when Verisign is making more money on registrations than ever does not make sense. This seems like solely a goal to make investors money, rather than maintain the purpose that ICANN was created for. Shame on ICANN if this deal is allowed to go through. I appreciate your accepting comments, even though I do expect this to be handled exactly as the FCC handled their comments on net neutrality. You've likely made your decision already, but if you still have one ounce of what you stood for at creation, you wouldn't even consider this deal. KC

This change is unacceptable. Clearly crony-capitalism at its best. I believe the there should be a one time price increase to a level that will provide an acceptable profit for Verisign, and after that, there can be an annual price increase that is permanently tied to inflation. Good Evening, After reading your proposals I would like to outline the following: I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest which these proposals seemingly contradict. Regards, Joel Kenny
