I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry - it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest.

Heard from Namecheap that .com domain will go up drastically. Please keep the .com domain affordable, delegate the $ to .com I'm a small business owner, growing my biz and could surely keep the over-head cost down. I find the upcoming changes in the new deal between Verisign and ICANN is wrong. Important big decisions like this wich will affect millions of internet users should not be down to only two companies to decide. The internet consumers, both users and the industry as a whole should be listened to in big important deals like this. In many countries there are competion rules that wouldnt allow near monopolies like this being created. Please listen and respect the rest of us users and keep important deals like this transparent and open for inputs from all users of the net. We are one world. Lets work together and. Lets not let greed rule.

I am completely opposed to ICAAN's proposed changes to the rules. ICAAN should not allow Verisign to unfairly compete as an independent domain registrar with the ability to increase the fees other registrars must pay. This $20M agreement is clearly a payoff to allow Verisign complete control of the market which will essentially damage fair competition in the domain market. To whom it may concern, I am really worried about and oppose the proposed Amendment 3. I am an individual who owns five .com addresses. I use two of them for direct business and the other three are for personal use. I recognize that the .com was intended for commerce. It has not played out that way over the years, however. The proposed amendment may be targeted at those using .com for commerce, but it is going to affect many more than just business owners and corporations. Please consider all of the affected parties and focus on the intent and goals of ICANN. I recognize ICANN needs funding to function. I worry, however, that the proposed amendment is not in the best interest of the public...and not a very transparent way to seek for additional funding. Given that about 40% of all registered domains are .com, the amendment is a significant proposal. Not one that can be privately negotiated between a for-profit company and ICANN. Please do not let the sparkling and shiny prospects of big increases in funding cloud good decision-making and sound judgement. Thank you, Adam R. West Kentucky, United States of America

I strongly object to the proposed increases in fees for .com domain names. It is very difficult to understand the justification for such precipitous increases - particularly in the face of no transparency in the decision making, a process which only involves two entities and a situation that appears to financially benefit one of those entities in a substantial way. I have owned a multitude of domains throughout the last two decades, many of which have been .com domains. I currently own a number of .com domains that I use for personal, small art and craft related businesses as well as personal projects. As a small business owner, domain registration and renewal already costs a great deal. If these prices were to increase as much as proposed in upcoming years, this will seriously become detrimental to people like me. Higher costs may not be as much of an issue for those who own large businesses. We already have a large problem with the internet being taken over by businesses and the corporate world. Rather, relegating the average person to social media. These price increases will only continue to hurt people like me and keep more of us away from domain ownership as well as hobbyist website design. Of course, we can always purchase another extension. However, this is often detrimental to our customers and visitors as .com is often the assumed and commonly-used extension, causing greater difficulty for our customers or visitors to find our websites. ICANN, Domain name services are vital to the not only the digital economy but the global economy in general. Domain names are at the heart of all Internet-based communication and commerce. While I understand there is a cost of managing and maintaining domain names, the price for purchasing domain names should remain as close to cost as possible. ICANN has a monopoly over domain names and needs to remain transparent in their actions and intentions with the general public. ICANN's purpose should be to serve the interests of the Internet community at large and not the interests of specific businesses such as Verisign. If we consider the analogy of domain names to telephone numbers, telephone companies charge for telephone numbers. While certain toll free numbers are sold at a premium, every other number is essentially free. Government oversight of the telephone companies has insured that company transactions and policies that effect a consumer's ability to purchase basic telephone service are fair and transparent. Please do not give the Verisign the right to raise .com domain prices without justification and full transparency. In addition, allowing Verisign to be a potential reseller of .com domains is a conflict of interest providing an unfair competitive advantage. If a free and open Internet has taught us anything, it is that transparency is the best practice and the freedom of information empowers all individuals to join a cause they believe is worth fighting for.
