I don't think it's in the best interest of the customers of the internet (i.e. the entire population of Earth) for you to increase pricing on .com domains. It seems like the price for these kinds of things should go down over time if anything. This will only serve to stifle businesses who enlist the Internet to grow themselves.

Hello, I buy a lot of domains and if your proposed changes with Verisign go through, I will be forced to buy significantly less domains. NO ON INCREASES. Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don't stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody.

Hi, I am a frequent buyer of .com domains, and continue to grow and build my brand using the .com TLD. When I heard about the potential increase in prices for .com domains I was shocked, as such an increase would be detrimental to the .com community. These changes will have a significantly harmful impact on the internet for years to come. This needs to be terminated before it starts. Best regards, Sahar

Dear Madam, or Sir, I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect, not just me, buy any individual who would like their own domain name. I am 100% sure that no corporation will object to the 28% cost increase every six years as they earn money off their domain name and paying almost any amount would be acceptible to them. However, there are a great deal of small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. Several of us have multiple domain names, if for no other reason than to protect our own names from being used to run a website. I personally have about 6 that I use to protect myself and my family while also allowing my children to be able to have a domain name that is exclusively theirs. 20 year Cost analysis: $ 7.85 / year 2018 $10.29 / year 2023 (31% increase over 2018) $13.49 / year 2029 (72% increase over 2018) $17.68 / year 2035 (125% increase over 2018) $23.17 / year 2041 (195% increase over 2018) I am aware that the 7% is a maximum per year for each of the four years and, theoretically, there could be no increase or a sub 7% increase some years, however, I have little faith on this being the norm and, most certainly, CANNOT plan on it being any less than the full 7% in any fiscal plans made. I understand it would be extremely difficult for you to create a regulation that would charge businesses more and individuals less, however, that may be what is required at this time. This would leave a loophole for businesses to have an individual register their domain name, however, no corporation of any size will be willing to leave their domain names in private hands. This would also allow fledgling businesses (aka startups) to keep their costs low at first. Remember, many businesses have been started in individual's garages. You may also assume that all ".com" domain names are used for, or are supposed to be used for commercial purposes, however, this is not the case today. If this had been defined and enforced from the beginning of the internet, this would be a non-issue, however, to start enforcing it today would cause many many individuals to lose their domains. Yes, there are other top level domains they can move to, however, that doesn't alleviate the fact that they would be losing an asset they had invested much time, money, and resources acquiring. Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to individuals and small businesses. Thank you, Kimberly R. Concerning the following: "In addition, under the proposed Amendment 3, the parties also agreed to restrict price increases due to a new consensus policy or documented extraordinary expense resulting from an attack on the security or stability of the DNS, to a maximum of seven percent annually, but only in those years when no other price increase is taken (Policy/S&S Increase)." I am a domain holder and am registering my opposition to this amendment. I do not believe this is in the public interest and there is simply no reason to believe that a for-profit corporation would not opt to increase prices at the maximum rate (which is many times the rate of inflation) every year they are allowed to. I own two domains and if your amendment goes through, it is likely that the price I pay to keep my domain names will go up. I cannot afford that as a person living on a fixed income. The Internet is a tool for knowledge. It should be available to everyone no matter their station in life. Raising prices on .com domain registration inhibits our ability to maintain the web as an open, inclusive platform for all folks. Without a clear understanding of the purpose of this change -- the reason for the cost increase, and the work to which the extra money will be put -- we cannot assume that the amendment will have a positive outcome for those that it affects most: folks looking to engage with the web. It disproportionally affects those especially without the privilege of wealth, and ICANN should not stand as a gatekeeper against a free and open internet.

Dear Madam, dear Sir, ICANN has a key-position considering domainnames and the way these are traded. It is unacceptable that ICANN can decide about the community of internet-users in an absolutely intransparent way disregarding the interests of that same community. You prove how wrong it is to leave ICANN as it was and not put in in the hands of the UNO. What you plan is giving Verison the possibility to act as a registrar for com-domains, seems not really fair and has nothing to do with a free market anymore. I do hope ICANN will reconsider because an increase of the price for com-domains will make non-americans choose for a different tld, like I already do. This is the second time some business, that I consider stinking, is going on at ICANN, what is wrong with your organisation? When even large american compagnies beg their users to protest, that should be a wake-up-call for ICANN. Better be careful when changing how registrars business models work. This is not how you improve your revenue stream in an NGO. Rock the boat too much and the government will get involved and no one wants that. Ask Zuckerberg. Don't forget about the small business owners who run their own web presence. If you increase that cost, they may decide they don't need a TLD.

Hi, I strongly oppose any increase to .COM pricing. Also, no behind closed door deals with only ICANN and Version. There needs to be more clarity with how the $20 million ICANN is receiving will be spent and with proper oversight. I don’t want to see this become something like drug prices that continue to rise without any checks. Please slow down and consider how the consumer and public is being impacted. I can understand the incentive to increase prices of .com domains. I can understand the need to increase prices to better support a growing network of domains that use this widely popular service. However the current plan of action seeks to put .com domains out of the budget of many small site host. People who pay for a .com domain for its widespread recognition but who may not make money off their website are going to have to start thinking twice about using the domain they may have used for years. This change obviously only serves to segregate domains into those utilized by large corporations or wealthy individuals and the rest of the internet. .com is the most recognized and accessible domain extension. Do not proceed with a price change that will hurt American consumers.

ICANN should not grant Verisign wholesale .COM domain name price increases. As a small, internet-base, business, annual registration of my domain names is an unavoidable cost of doing business. I rely on ICANN to play their role of a non-profit entity with responsibility for fair domain name management. By granting Verisign the right to virtually print money with annual price raises having no basis in need to cover growing costs, service expansion, or other relevant costs, ICANN is not fulfilling its role. Verisign, and any other business, needs to be profitable, but with known low costs, current profitability, and no valid reason for higher pricing on .COM domain names, the cost to registrants like myself should not increase. If ICANN is receiving money from Verisign to push through new pricing and more lax regulation on them, I would like to know how that can not be called a bribe. With the past 6 months' events in the USA, I would think the term "quid pro quo" should be discussed and considered at ICANN before selling out all us registrants that rely on simple domain name registrations for survival of our businesses.
