Hello, I’m writing today to express concern over the proposed fee increases for .COM domains every year for 8 of the next 10 years. As a business owner and advocate for all people to have their own websites, these cost increases will be yet another barrier for marginalized populations to buy domain names, and an extra added expense for many business owners (myself included). I urge you to please reconsider the terms of this agreement. Perhaps a cap of some kind could be a feasible middle ground. Thank you, Michelle McCormick

Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the prices of a global open market. As a former technical manager for Microsoft and owner of multiple small businesses I object to the Proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement on the following grounds: 1. The increase is clearly not warranted. The current .com domain administration cost-vs-revenue model is more than profitable for the providers, and the proposed technical enhancements for things like domain security, etc., etc., don't require the proposed rate increases by any measure (or any increase at all for that matter). Thusly, it appears to be nothing less than a money grab attempt which ICANN should strenuously protect against if the organization truly supports their mission. 2. The proposed increases directly target small businesses. Although the current domain fees may appear to be a 'drop in the bucket', there are many such drops for small businesses when it comes to owning and managing a website (or sites), and those drops add up quickly. These proposed price increases are ridiculous. I have worked in telecom for nearly 2 decades. Price compression has allowed significantly faster speeds for less expense over the course of that time. The rates for voice services are at historic lows. Why is this trend not applicable to TLDs? The technologies and underlying infrastructure leveraged to prop up TLD root servers must be in the same situation. I realize that things have changed a bit from a security standpoint, and that does add some cost to the overall operations. However, these cost increases should be drastically offset by the much lower cost of hardware, the innovation of cloud infrastructure, and aways declining bandwidth costs. I would just like to go on record that I am vehemently opposed to these price increases. There is also the question of the $20 million in funds changing hands from Verisign and ICANN. In these troublesome worldly times, transparency is more imperative than ever, especially when it entails a nonprofit. How is this "payment" to be spent? Regards, Andrew Davis

Dear team The domain industry is already being fucked up by domain hoarders who buy common term domains and do nothing with them and just waste and then the new companies have to choose weird names that don't make any sense. But until now, they've only been doing it with .com domains primarily, but if you increase the prices of these domains, people are gonna migrate to other TLDs and so are these hoarders. The domain market has already been ruined so much that it's almost impossible to find a simple English word domain. Please don't ruin it any further. RE: No. 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement (Amendment 3) This "deal" puts single company interests over consumer interests as well as economic interests. How? We're currently in a tech wave and startups are continually making large financial waves. Increasing the cost of .com domains, increases the barrier to entry for college kids building on shoe string budgets. We know success is skill, marketing, and luck. By raising these prices you're making it difficult for companies to market effectively. I do not support this Amendment and ICANN should not either. Sincerely, Alex Wilde

Dear sir or madam, My name is Drew Pendergrass, and like many owners of a .COM domain name I am alarmed by the betrayal to the fundamental values of the internet that ICANN is considering. The web was designed to allow people around the world to share knowledge and communicate better with one another -- a fundamentally democratic dream, created by idealists in a physics laboratory. That dream has never been fully realized, and, with the centralization of the internet, the original vision of a dispersed free web may be falling away. You are adding fuel to the fire. Corporations won't mind a price increase, but individuals and artists and academics and the weirdos who make the internet great will be stifled, pushed off of their sites and into boring conformity. There is no changing that the .COM TLD is the lingua franca of the internet. It isn't for companies, anymore; it is for everyone. This proposed change adds absolutely no value to the web or its ability to foster communication. It is a vile form of rent-seeking, growing fat off of increased rates. Verisign provides nothing in exchange. This proposal is shameful, and if I had my way every official at ICANN who participated in this scheme would be removed. As a .com user I strongly oppose the new directive that gives verisign monopoly over the pricing of the .com domain. I believe this would inevitably lead to absurd prices increases which would hamper the use of the domain. I disapprove of the planned increases in .com registration fees. I, as a customer, am very happy with the way the prices are right now, and do not want prices to increase. These planed price increases will may be easily handled by big companies, but are not welcomed from thousands, if not millions single individuals.
