I understand that there is a new agreement that Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases. This means .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. I also understand the contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. This new agreement is unfair trade practices in my opinion. Having a monopoly of sorts and using that stronghold to increase pricing is not acceptable. Thank you for listening. Shawn

Dear ICANN, I am strongly opposed to the proposed price increase for .com domains. Prices should be reduced, not increased. Please put the .com registry management out to bid and let the lowest bid win! I've heard many estimates as low as $2 to $3 per domain for the actual cost of running the .com registry. Lowering prices for legacy extensions is the direction that ICANN should be going. The switching costs to move domains to an alternative like .xyz are too high in terms of marketing, branding, SEO, physical signs, etc, so I am captive to using .com, as are tens of millions of other people. ICANN should manage .com for the public good, not for the benefit of Verisign. So please do not permit price increases! Thank you, Steven Kennedy Colorado USA

I am a registrant of several .com domain names, mostly for personal use. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. I don’t feel that anyone other than Verisign wants increases in .COM prices. The current rate of marginally less than $10 is already high for the service provided. This is not in the public interest.

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to voice extreme concern over the proposed change related to .com registry. Without additional information, the public is only made aware that ICANN is allowing a business to raise prices, and that business is proposing a large donation back to ICANN for infrastructure. I do not expect to be concerned with how the funds are spent, but without further details there is no understanding. This reflects extremely poorly on ICANN as an impartial governing body, not because anything wrong is being done but because without details and accountability there is no platform for trust. If the goal is to push people away from the DNS system and towards a distributed platform like TOR, this proposal is a great start. Sincerely, Tony Sullivan

Many of us with a .com address are just barely holding on with existing prices. To see prices rise 8 out of the next ten years is untenable. Since this is something that hasn't changed in so long, none of us smalltime operators have a plan for dealing with this raise. If there is any way to mitigate this for smaller domains who can't afford it, that would be so important for the survival of small businesses, who are already threatened by the giants. Thanks, Wendy

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. This is not in the best interest of the internet and the world. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Do not take an opportunity for short term greed over long term stewardship. Hello, I've grown up on the Internet for the past 30 years. The fundamental spirit of openness on the internet has truly changed my perspective about how large systems and organizations can operate. It is an idealism which has manifested very well on the world wide web. As far as I can tell the decision to allow Verisign to operate as a domain registrar sounds harmful to the price of .com domains. But the price alone is not as important as the ability for other companies to operate competitively to offer consumers freedom to choose among many options. In this crazy world of capitalism, please play fair. It is unwise to take Verisign's money in exchange for making them a registrar. Also, I will be the first to admit that I don't understand all of what's going on, but the whole thing sounds fishy to me and I don't like it. ICANN you can do better. Be more open -- like the internet -- AND sustain yourself. I know you can. Cheers, - Tharyn

Hello I understand that a new proposal regarding .com pricing that could affect all COM domains - up to 40% of all registered domain names online. That .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. I understand Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. How is this fair not checking in with the entire community before making a change that will so significantly impact .com domain registrants? I hope you will reconsider and involve your community. We don't need to raise this fee just to raise it. We should have better reasons to raise it than this. Real people have many domains they register and are trying to maintain and this would hit them harder. Lets try to not be like the rest of the government and not raise fees for no apparent reason. Please don't implement this and if it is adjuststed then it should just be a slight adjustment and only as needed.
