I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. But I believe there is some reason and logic behind an increase, just not for the high percentage that is been proposed. The increase should be limited to the rate of inflation, never any higher. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is already earning a tremendous profit on it's current rate. There is no justification for a price increase at this time. To: ICANN, I am a registrant of multiple .com domain names that I use for my business. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. They will not be providing additional services or benefits for the additional cost, and their profits are high -- not necessitating any price increase. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. Put out the .com for bid with requirements, and see what comes back. No other entity would ever consider a sweetheart deal where there's no competition and the operator is allowed to increase prices year after year. That's a situation that leads to corruption. How are higher prices justified? Good morning, As a system administrator for a company based in Memphis, TN, I am for a free internet that allows people from all walks of life to have affordable access to domain registration. Raising the prices is not something that should be dictated by a nonprofit or an independent organization such as Verisign. This is a monopoly that cannot be allowed to exist. We saw this type of trend with telecommunications in the greater half of the 20th century and it led to exorbitant price hikes that the general public were either forced to pay or do without. Communication with other peoples is a right and that should not be limited due to financial ability. I am well aware of operating costs, but 31% seems less on the side of being mandatory and more on the side of being profitable. Be on the side of humanity, not on the side of wealthy corporations that would rob from the pockets of consumers. As we all know, businesses will offset this increase by passing the expense down to consumers through price hikes, effectively punishing the public for having little to no knowledge of the significance of this proposition. I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). I am a small business owner. My domain portfolio consist of over 3000 registered Tld's domains. Your proposed registration fee increase shall force me, against my wishes, to self liquidate my portfolio holdings if I am to remain in business. I can not afford shouldering what shall amount to a huge monetary increase and financial burden. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest for the greater good. Don't allow nor permit yourselves to all of sudden to be blinded by monet and allow yourselves to become greedy. Please look elsewhere to generate your additional income producing assets or profits. Try more public advertising educating and informing the public to generate greater awareness as to the value of domain ownership. As a small business owner I am VERY opposed to the increases proposed to Dot Com domain name registration and renewal. ICANN is upposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest ... not for the interest of Registrars. Adding costs to domain owners is not called for, and will be detrimental to many small online publishers.
