To whom it may concern: As the owner of a dot com domain (davidschlachter.com) I see no reason why Verisign's share of fees should increase at a rate higher than inflation. Costs of maintaining the dot com registry should decrease (per domain) year over year as efficiencies are implemented. If costs are increasing they are a result of a) no competition or b) perverse incentives encouraging over-spending. In the public interest fees should be kept at similar levels in perpetuity. I totally oppose to the raising of .com prices. It makes absolutely no sense. If anything, technology costs are decreasing. The .com space is saturated, having to make up names as it is and now pay even more. Verisign seems to be the only one benefitting from this. To whom it may concern, I am a business owner, and it's hard enough to go through changes online, let alone paying for all the different system services that make it all work. I mean, what do you guys expect everyone to be excited about spending more money? Moves like this overtime WILL push out business form starting. I mean, I'm one, and if this goes into effect, then I am going to have to let go of a lot of domains I've wanted to build. Additionally, moving this hike charge up, you guys are going to be pushing out the little guy and giving opportunity only for the ones with the most significant budgets to run a business online. It's probably the big boys behind this hick to crush the little guy. Owner of 600 domains.

As a result of these needs, my costs need to be monitored closely and as such an increase in these fees will greatly cause undue stress on my company’s ability to operate securely in its competitive environment. ICANN's recent changes to its contract with Verisign, made without input from those it most effects, allow for wholesale price increases to registrars and expanded privileges for Verisign to act as a registrar itself. This will hurt not only registrars, but also website owners like me, independent creators who rely on their sites for income and freelance opportunities. Hello, This note is to voice concern over the proposal to significantly increase domain prices. The Internet is the single-most scalable way to reach people and communicate. Free speech and open access for all--including lower income folks--is a fundamental right that we should help preserve and support. The current pricing may not be considered high for some (or businesses) but we need to fight hard to keep the costs as absolutely low as possible for those who can barely afford the fee, yet have the same right to be heard as the rest of us. There is a large but limited supply of domains and needs to be treated as a Public Good (in the Economics sense) and needs to be regulated and controlled in order to preserve access for all. Minimal increases of 1-2% to help cover basic costs would be reasonable, but anything above that would stifle communications and access. Thank you for listening. -Dan Liddle
