For many people in the developing world, a legitimate website essentially means a name ending with .com - already these domains are much more expensive and unique names are hard to find. Increasing costs like this is criminal - those in the developing world can't afford to be paying this yearly fee to what is effectively a monopoly.

I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified due to the fact that technology and services should decrease in value over time and not increase. Only products and services that rely heavily on “raw materials” to produce or operate should have an increase comparable to the cost of those materials or equivalent to the inflation rate. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price, and no justification in increasing the price.

As a very large Turkish Internet community with 164.000 members we will bring up this unfair agreement issue to Turk Telekom on Friday the 14th, which is the biggest Internet provider in Turkey and the Middle East! We will not let ICANN to do this kind of deals behind closed doors. I guess ICANN head team made a miss calculate about peoples IQ's and patience. This will only serve to hurt and discourage SMBs that cannot afford as much as larger corporations. I am against the recent changes announced about your contract made with Verisign, Inc. The price increases being proposed will harm internet users and should not go into effect. I am against you raising wholesale prices for .com domains. These changes are outrageous and will drive up prices making domains .com domains less accessible and more expensive. I own a business and thus several .com domains. I also work primarily with small businesses that own multiple domains each. I understand the costs of start-ups and growing a company sustainably over time. I know that costs of running a business grow and that further investment requires further funding. However, I'm concerned that there seems to be little oversight and no accountability measures for this Amendment. It's like two foxes and a hen voting on what to have for dinner. While ICANN and Verisign might feel they are doing this for the common good, it's hard for the general public (the hen) to see it that way because there is no oversight and no accountability. Show us both and we might change our minds. But for now, I'm opposed to the proposed Amendment. Wendy Bowers
