Hello. I'm using my domain in .com for personal purpose, I have no money income from selling ad or products/services, nonetheless I paid for it. Last time I paid near 90$ for domain renewal for 5 years, most likely your changes will lead to domain cost increase by 21% every 5 years. It's really hard to understand for why I pay near 20$ per year now and why I need to pay more. Why most other domains cost cheaper than domain in .com. zone and which expenses do you have that should costs more. ICANN doesn't support domains on ns servers and did nothing for me. If that changes be accepted I will just change zone for my domain. Your future income from me: (20$ - registrar_fee)*0 =0$ Not a big deal, but I sure I'm not only one who will made same decision. -- Ivan

Of course a limited resource will be more expensive than one that is less so. And, of course, the price will ultimately fluctuate with demand. And, the cost of producing the resource will be factored into the total cost. All this said, however, I'd like to see the justification for the proposed change. How is it that the cost of maintaining a database of unique strings is suddenly going to spike over the next few years? It seems pretty unlikely. How is it in the public interest to make the .com namespace more expensive? There's no way the price increase will impact the bottom line of large or even medium commercial enterprises. Even if the yearly cost of a domain increases 100% overnight, that won't even register on the balance sheet for, say, Netflix, Amazon, Microsoft, or Wells Fargo. The only people who will notice this are those on the margins. This will shut down the voices of those who can just barely afford to participate. This seems like a play to grab a bunch of cash while screwing over the people who have the least power. If Verisign needs the money that badly, then we should be paying a lot more attention to their situation. Maybe they need help -- help that might look like lightening their responsibilities, or overseeing their finances. Don't do this. It's not good for anyone who isn't Verisign.

Hello, Allowing a private for-profit company to decide on the prices is wrong. Domains are public for the whole world, their price should not change according to one country's history of prices. To whom it may concern, I am a registrant of a .com domain name and I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. The cost of running a database, amortized over the millions of registrants, does not justify any higher price. A higher price would have to be considered monopolistic price gouging. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. The public interest is served by keeping the price for domain registration low enough for normal people to pay. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. A domain registration is ultimately just a row in an online database! Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Keeping the existing rate is part of that responsibility to the public interest. If Verisign is complaining about not receiving enough money, then how about open partitioning the hosting of the .COM registry to multiple other US based registries? Please keep the annual fee very low or consider a more flexible charging system for the .COM top level domain that will keep it accessible to individuals and small businesses. I totally oppose to the raising of .com prices. It makes absolutely no sense. If anything, technology costs are decreasing so this should too. Dear ICANN, There needs to be a more transparent and open process in regulating the pricing structure for the .com Registry. While Verisign manages the .com Registry, it does not own it. As such, it has no business dictating the price without a competitive bidding process that is open, transparent, and in the best interests of the public. I am a registrant of a .com domain name, and I am vehemently against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. I’m against the proposed changes affecting .COM domain prices for registrars. It is very important that these prices remain affordable for individuals and small businesses who purchase domains.
