I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. I'm writing this to express my dissatisfaction at the news involving ICANN's decision to not only drastically increase the prices for .com registrations, but also for the obviously greedy deals being struck for millions of dollars without any accountability whatsoever. It's already ridiculous enough that that the price is where it's at, just to register ownership of a simple website address. The fact that other domain extensions are almost astronomical in price is even crazier. However, increasing .com registrations, which make up nearly half of all domains, is nothing short of greed as it is both unnecessary and useless for everyone -- except the greedy pockets of those who don't have to do anything apart from collect the overpriced fees. If you keep pushing people then they will demand more intervention, which would bring about more legislative or even legal actions. Is this what you're trying to accomplish? Get off the side of greed for once and be an organization for the people. Self-serving, greedy systems like this are outdated and need to expire. Thanks for your time. -Brandon

I am hearing that verisign has a somewhat of a lock on .com domains as a wholesaler and will be raising prices significantly over the next decade. It seems no matter what registrar I go to I am still stuck with the native wholesale pricing. Once we lock into a domain name we are somewhat stuck as we develop significant internet weights. Specifically as a consumer we can have hundreds of logins that use emails as a login value let alone an email address. In addition many many vendors use these emails as a two factor validation method. This makes it very difficult to leave your domain to another domain such as .info. Hello, I wish to voice my objections to the raising of registration fees paid to Verisign for .com domain registrations. The 7% per year for 4 year fee increases are well above the rate of inflation and does not reflect the costs associated with running a domain registration business. It is ICANN's job to protect domain registrants from abuses of Verisign's monopoly position. In this instance it appears that ICANN is instead an enabler of Verisigns abuses. This is extremely unfortunate and not in keeping with expectations. Yours truly, Ben Holt

I don't know what kind of trade deal you got going in secret but it's entirely unnecessary and uncalled for to all of a sudden start raising prices on .com domains. This doesn't benifet anyone but you and VeriSign. Your suppose to be nonprofit. If you profit from this, then that's fraud and it will be exposed. I hope your prepared to tell the world how this 20m dollars is going to be used...

The web needs to remain open and accessible for all. By increasing prices you'll make the barrier to entry for hobbyists and poor much much higher. Owning a domain name (specifically a .COM) is something even a child should be able to afford. Please do not change this. Thank you

I find it very interesting that closed door deals occur for pricing on domain names with zero input. Then, late in the game, pybluc commenting is opened. The fact of the matter is that TLDs should be much cheaper than they are now. You are basically selling vaporware. A string of bits in an electronic world. Keep the pricing where it is. Cut your costs. By the way, what are the costs? What makes up your overhead?

Hi, I am concerned about this amendment to the Registry Agreement because it will affect any individual who would like their own .COM domain name. Surely no big corporations will object to the proposed increases as they earn money off their domain name. However, this is going to have a significant negative impact for starters, local ONGs or foundations and small businesses that would see this as a burden as well as individual users out there that have purchased their own domain name and are using it for personal use, not commercial use. Please reconsider, and stop to continue with the proposed Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. Thanks, Norman Valerio M.

Dear sir, I am a registrant of many .COM domain names, and I am most adamantly against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. It is a greedy grab for money. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. The system works fine the way it is. Do NOT break the system by getting greedy! Verisign has no business dictating the price of .COM domain names. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system *in the public interest*. Hi, It is really difficult to have increment in domain prices as country like Sri Lanka has just started it digital journey. More people are coming into web space and additional costs would be difficult for them to bear hence there can be step back. The internet and .com are almost synonymous, and the proposed pricing increase by 70% is excessive and unwarranted. Furthermore, there is a lack of clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are actually spent on domain infrastructure instead of lining individual pockets. I am dismayed to learn of the closed-door deal between ICANN and Verisign that will lead to significant .com price increases over the next decade. I am not against extra funding for data infrastructure improvements, but there needs to be much more transparency about the terms of the deal since it will affect so many small businesses and individuals. From what is visible to the general public, this deal looks like a conflict of interest bordering on corrupt practices. Prove me wrong by making the decision between ICANN and Verisign transparent, open to public scrutiny, and ACCOUNTABLE to the millions it will affect.
