Please don’t increase the price and I would kindly request you to keep it as minimal as possible. Being online and having multiple websites for over 14 years .. I can already see this wouldn’t be a great idea. I teach people how to design, develop and market online and it’s only growing. Please don’t spoil it for everyone.. Thank you

These increases will cripple a lot of new .coms and stop the growth of the business which is needed to have strong economies. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. This would have a real impact on new companies getting established and on innovation in the long run. I am taking this time to email you with four significant concerns I have with your Verisign Contract : *1. Price Increases* Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains by 7% each year in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. After a two year “freeze”, Verisign can increase prices by 7% annually during 2026-2029, then another two year “freeze”. This cycle will continue, meaning that within 10 years, .COM domains could cost approximately 70% more than the current wholesale price of $7.85 — and the sky is the limit. It is not clear how much of these price increases registrars will pass along to consumers, but it is likely that most of these increases will be paid by domain name registrants. The contract does allow for other price increases for certain extraordinary situations, so it is possible prices could increase more than anticipated. *2. ICANN Will Receive an Extra $20 Million* With the contract changes, Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN’s initiatives regarding the security and stability of the domain name system. There is no explanation why Verisign did this, how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent. *3. Verisign Can Operate as a Domain Registrar* ICANN also had rules that the operator of a TLD could not operate a domain name registrar. Although in 2012 ICANN allowed operators of new gTLDs to have domain name registrars, it did not apply to Verisign. The new contract will allow Verisign to operate its own registrar, except for selling .COM domain names itself. To circumvent this, it is also possible that Verisign could act as a reseller of .COM domains, through another registrar. This result is that the company that controls almost 80% of the registrar pricing for domain names will compete directly with all domain registrars, maximizing its control of domain name pricing to the detriment of other competing registrars. While this might result in lower prices to consumers, fewer registrars will harm competition, choice, and domain name services. Verisign’s registrar could also use its dominant position to charge higher prices to consumers, while at the same time raising registrar prices. *4. ICANN Ignored Previous Comments* As detailed on Standing Up to ICANN to Keep Domain Prices in Check and pricecaps.org, over 3,500 comments were submitted in support of price controls for the .ORG, .INFO, and .BIZ TLDs. Only six comments supported removing price controls. ICANN discounted the comments that were in favor of maintaining price caps. A number of the comments were submitted using an online tool, which caused the comments to be discounted as “spam” by the ICANN Ombudsman. ICANN removed the price caps, primarily relying upon a biased preliminary analysis from 2009 by an economics professor that did not reference any data. These changes will have a significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. This is not right! Dear Icann, In my viewpoint this is so wrong that there was no prior discussion with the all countries. Plus this would become a bad turn of events because many small and medium enterprises depend on these domain to make sure their business runs smoothly. This unexpected price hike and the way things are moving would create a lot of chaos and bring about new ugly challenges. I'm so tired of all of this, we've got .org now owned by a venture capital firm instead of a non-profit and a bunch of other absolutely stupid and unforgivable moves being made in the TLD space. Stop it. The '.com' is what many think of when they think 'domain name' and making it even less accessible is the wrong move, its already frustrating enough that that VeriSign administrates this and '.net', important parts of internet domain infrastructure. NO, don't increase the cost, throw out this agreement, nobody wants it but VeriSign and to be frank nobody wants VeriSign to administrate this TLD anyways.

Dear Concerned, As a .COM domain user for many years I strongly object to the proposed amendment being carried out by you. It should be noted that .COM domains are a backbone to the Worldwide Internet community as it has become synonymous to the Internet for many people. In many parts of the World the other TLD's such as .NET , .ORG .CO etc. are not seen as a part of the internet. Hello, I am writing to voice my opposition to Proposed Amendment 3. Despite there clearly being potential financial gains to be had by raising the registration fee on .com domains, the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The only entities that stand to benefit from the proposed arrangement are verisign itself, at the expense of the public. While price hikes such as this likely won't mean much to the larger business concerns that buy in bulk, it will impact the millions of small, independent businesses and developers that rely on the system as is to make their livelihood. At worst, this could prove yet another point of pressure that convinces a small business to make their online presence exclusively in the Facebook walled garden and eschew the web itself. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Deals such as this are an abdication of that mandate; short sighted profit chasing at the expense of all else. Please do not adopt this proposal. Thanks, James Sevener

ICANN Amendment Comment - I have been a registrant of multiple .com domain names over the last 20+ years, and would like to continue to use this TLD for business and personal uses due to its ubiquity and strong public understanding. I am strongly against the proposed price increase of .com domains. While this is in Verisign's best interest, it would have negative consequences for everyone else. The current rate of $7.85 already provides a generous amount of overhead vs. the minimal fee to process .com registrations. ICANN is not under direct government control, yet still wields great power equivalent of that which only government run organizations possess. This should provide even more incentive to operate the domain name system in the public interest. I believe that this proposal goes against the very nature of an open Internet by working exclusively with Verisign. ICANN should also be politically neutral and not roll back an agreement due to the fact that it was created under a different political party's administration. Hello. I would like to voice my opinion with concern to the 3rd amendment. My reasoning behind this opinion is that websites are at the core of the internet, bringing everything together. The current price tag of around 7 dollars as it stands allows me, as a student, to create websites for school projects. Increasing this price tag can only benefit Verisign and in turn causes damages for small business owners. I believe every type of commerce should be able to create a website, including the small startups which could later increase significantly. For the reasons mentioned above, I oppose to this ammendment.
