I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains We already lost the beloved .DEV to Google, which made ".dev" domains public at about $150/yr earlier last year We don't want this to happen again with .COM. It is important that ".com"s remain accessible to individuals, start-ups and small businesses.

The proposed amendment seems to violate the spirit of the Internet and the ideas underpinning the creation of the Web. I wholeheartedly oppose the direction you and Verisign are taking , which will only make it harder for small companies to compete with the commercial overlords.

Please do not go forward with the proposed agreement to increase .com prices One of the marvelous things about the internet has been the ability of "everyman" to hold their own website. The proposed cost increases will force out a portion of consumers, changing the online business sphere to a privileged slice. To whom it may concern, We understand the need to have price increase due to inflation and reinvestment on infrastructure. However, the issue is that as a non-profit organization (ICANN), it shall not have no transparencies on how the funds it receive from Verisign will be used. A deal behind a closed door is against the free market spirit and certainly carry distrust from the community. Furthermore, the monopoly deal that ICANN has with Verisign is also against many of the principles for a fair and free trade economy, and the Internet as a whole that affects many businesses. We just wanted 2 things: * Transparencies on how the funds will be used * Verisign shall not be just the only entity who controls .com domain. The world is full of greed and so is the internet. But to this point there has still been some equality around how things work in the web. Even regular people have been able to afford and express their opinions and express themselves on .com domains. What do you think will happen, if Verisign is allowed to increase .com domain prices by 7 % annually (with some exeptions)? Little by little only huge corporations can afford the holy grail of domains and all the little people will suffer. The world would become a better place for later generations if we would plant trees. This action can be compared to destroying a rain forest. At 7% the .com domain prices will double roughly every ten years. With this logic in 100 years you need to multiply the current price by 1024. In 200 years you need to multiply it by 1 048 576. That's doubling only twenty times. This may seem far fetched but this is exactly the perspective you need to be thinking in. And this is exactly what will happen. Every time greed today triumphs long term best option, the people will suffer. I hope you can live with the decision that many will suffer because you were greedy. But I guess that you still have the option to make things right. You should consider taking the opportunity.

I totally feel like this is a mistake. Once again finishing contracts without almost telling anyone about those changes. .com domains shouldn't be increased in case of prices. After all, 40% of of all domains are .com domains. Of course, you would make much more money, but how can you force the whole internet to pay for that?

I recently learned the intent to increase the prices of .com domain registrations. As a small business owner, who is a 1-person show, it is unacceptable to me that such price increases would take effect - especially for those of us who are small business owners and/or operate a personal website or blog. The affordability of having a domain registered, something that is critical for the success of any enterprise in today's Internet world, is becoming less realistic. The .com domain is still the basic standard by which people search for websites, and to create a system where it is out of the reach for everyone except those with thick pocketbooks is unacceptable and only demonstrates a ridiculous level of greed. Or they may have to give us current domain names, allowing for more fraud since alternate domain names can be scooped up by entities who use them for phishing schemes. Please reconsider this move. We had our own local .co.za increase prices and it killed the entrepreneur. Do not increase prices to registrants. It's going to drive people to other TLDs.

The internet is supposed to be kept free (as in freedom) and accessible to all. Raising the prices and editing the contracts without listening to public comment is indicative of biased and corrupt individuals running ICANN which is quite unfortunate. I am entirely against the raising of .COM domain registries. Why is Verisign being allowed to inject $20million dollars and have a say in the process? Why is ICANN allowing Verisign to become a domain registrar? None of this makes sense for the public. Sincerely, Concerned Internet citizen

The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. Honestly, the cost set for simply availing itself of a non-Cost of Goods service such as Domain Name Registration is high enough. When there is such a monopolistic service, we need to be vigilant about who/how those prices should be changed. There is no needï¿½and it's a TRAVESTY to allowï¿½a change in the whole sale price of .COM domain registration. Unless there is a public accounting on the INCOME and PROFIT associated with the .COM domain registration process and an OPEN BID option, with guidelines like a typical RFP that allows any company access to that revenue, then the pricing should stay as is.
