How is it in the public interest to increase the price for .COM registry services? It makes it more expensive for everyone who owns a .COM domain. I’d advocate against this amendment. Stop your greedy money grab scheme and think for the average people please! This amendment will hurt the growth of the Internet because of the hiked price of .COM domains. Not good for the industry. Not good for the internet. Only good for those greedy money grabbers who want our money.

I am writing to oppose Amendment 3's long term plan to continually increase annual prices for .com addresses as it has no control built into it to assure current customers that the costs won't soar above the means unduly. This is a money grab that does not benefit customers at all, only the two companies involved. But the customers are the reason these companies exist. It has recently come to my attention that ICANN has concluded a deal, without public oversight or advance comment, with Verisign Inc., allowing it to raise .com registration rates to wholesalers over the coming years. In exchange for this fee increase approval, ICANN accepted a $20 million dollar payment for purposes unknown. Aside from simple greed, there are no particularly valid reasons for allowing price increases in .com. Aside from bureaucratic self indulgence, there is no particular need for ICANN to receive $20 million of Internet Users' funds, simply because they can extract it in exchange for granting price increases. Neither Verisign nor ICANN have much to do with the success of the Internet, which has been brought about by users, and, if history is any indicator, that reducing prices for TLD registrations is a better way to go than increasing prices. Verisign has more than ample revenue from its Internet related activities. It should be forced to "make do" as should ICANN. Situations like these remind me of the bribery scandals involved with the Salt Lake City Olympics and the USOC. Perhaps the press should investigate and bring what they find into the light. Change ICANN's position and deny any price increases to Verisign.

As the owner and manager of multiple domain names (currently around 150) I have huge concerns over the proposed increases in the cost of domain registration. Extrapolated across the board for others like myself, it makes for a massive increase in costs that far exceeds inflation. That there should be a small increase to the cost of domain ownership is reasonable, that these should build without reference, year on year for the foreseeable future is tantamount to unfair practice and will certainly impact on the various projects I have on hand and will force me to close many. Please reconsider. You are pushing out hobbyists, those with personal websites and low budget web-designers - which is (or possibly as a result of these proposed changes "was") a large percentage of your customer base. According to Internet Live Stats - although there are 1.7 billion websites on the internet, only 200 million are currently active. Far worse 75% of currently registered websites are parked or suspended. The proposed increase in costs, year on year, will make this situation even worse. Dear Sir/Madam, I have learned via online research that ICANN intends to increase by over 70% the price of the .com TLD. I am writing this email to formerly object to this intention. The price of TLDs is already very high compared to the relative data storage cost for the period of 1 Year. Choosing to nearly double the cost of such TLDs simply because Verisign have essentially offered your organisation a $20 million dollar bribe is irresponsible. There is already a vast trend of domain name squatting, where vendors will automatically scoop up domains simply for the potential to resell them in the future. This behaviour has, and continues to, bias domain ownership in favour of the rich, and prevent fledgling businesses or other potential domain owners from having equal accessibility to the domain namespace. As a software engineer and web domain owner, I understand how automated the process of domain name registration & ownership is. While human-occupied jobs do exist within this realm, such as those working for top-level DNS providers and security firewalls for top-level DDOS protection and the like, the majority of the process of registering and managing domain names is performed and maintained by software agents. Therefore I do not see justification in such a hefty and spontaneous price hike, especially when money exchanging hands between your organisation and Verisign is involved. Please do not follow the monopolistic behaviour of companies like AT&T, Comcast or Verizon. The reason inequality is rife in America is due to rich-favouring tactics like these companies demonstrate. To follow suit by accepting the Verisign bribe simply to hike prices for the end consumer would be disastrous for the future of equality of domain accessibility. Please instead focus on setting a healthier and kinder example of encouraging equality, by redirecting your efforts to instead deconstruct and prevent domain squatting, or automated & exhaustive automated domain purchasing. This would help ensure that TLDs remain available and accessible to every person with such interest, rather than exclusively favouring the wealthy and supporting their ongoing land-grab in this arena. Realistically the value of a .com domain has DECREASED over the years. There are a ton of new tlds that are just as good. If the price of .com domains increase I would be just fine chosing another tld and supporting decentralized dns options

Hi, I am vehemently disappointed to hear about the potential .com price increase. This is downright unjust, unreasonable, and illogical. It is enough that we as consumers need to worry about the 100 plus expenses that go up every year. The potential price increase for .com domains is no different than a potential taxation on air. That's how stupid this deal is. There is no legitimate or sound reason why we as the consumers should pay for this. If anything, why increase it every year freeze it for two and then restart that vicious cycle over and over and over again? This to me is worse than a Ponzi or pyramid scheme. It is a scheme built on greed. I will not rest my case until this proposed amendment gets washed away in the sewers where it belongs in perpetuity. All my best, Joe

As a hobbyist developer and side hustle entrepreneur, I have loved the freedom of being able to publish sites online and to represent those sites with the nearly universal .com domain. It's as classic as the internet and price increases will make it increasingly challenging to turn startup ideas into the next big thing. I'm also concerned about the lack of transparency into who exactly the price increases stand to benefit and am fearful that these extra fees will wind up in lobbyist pockets. Thanks, Lewis
