I am a registrant of many .com domain names over the last few years, all for mostly personal use. I am against the proposed price increase of .COM domains. No one other than Verisign wants increases in .COM prices. The current rate is already far more than justified. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. Do not increase the .com domain price! ICANN: Objection: I object to Proposed Amendment 3s allowance for Verisign to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, with the prospect of additional increases, as well. Reasons for Objection: There are two reasons for my objection. First, the proposed price increases would make .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. This runs contrary to the independent, equalizing fabric of the Internetthe greatest advancement of freedom in our time. Second, along with Proposed Amendment 3, Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain-name system initiatives. But there is no clarity about how ICANN will spend the money or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure. As this does not avoid the appearance of impropriety, it diminishes popular trust for ICANN and could subject ICANN to unnecessary governmental scrutiny. If ICANN just stays open, honest, and transparent, ICANNs trust is less likely to erode and governments will be less likely to feel the need to intervene in ICANN affairs. I, and my company, oppose the proposed contract. As a holder and manager of over 100 domains, price increases and ambiguous changes represent a huge liability for me and my customers most of all. A new open and fair deal should be reached with the concerns and interests of customers and end users in mind. This current deal is unacceptable and we will do all we can to stand against it. Do the right thing and pursue modest and controlled price increases in accordance with increase in business expenses and inflation. Aaron Harlow

This is absolutely unjustified. A .com name is inanimate and holds no service requirement other than records keeping. There is nothing here but a desire to increase costs to owners with no value add. Please do not approve the proposed amendment. The .COM registry is hard enough for smaller companies to participate in. Raising the prices would only hamper them more. I have worked with Verisign in the past and found them to be a very difficult company to work with. I do not support them being the primary .COM registrar and definitely not for them to increase fees. I have great concerns in all these anti consumer practices from ICANN lately. Clearly the US corruption is spreading wider and wider. I hope the EU soon interferes and ensures proper consumer rights since ICANN and by extension the US clearly are a poor guardian of the internet. Who benefits from these proposed changes? I think it is a very safe bet that some folks at the top of both ICANN and Verisign are the only ones on that list.

Hello, I would like to voice my opposition to Proposed Amendment 3. I believe that the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The only entities that stand to benefit from the proposed arrangement are Verisign itself, at the expense of the public. These price hikes will impact the millions of small, independent businesses and developers that rely on the system as is to make their livelihood. Further, this could prove yet another point of pressure that convinces a small business to make their online presence exclusively in the Facebook walled garden and eschew the web itself. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good.
