I read the amendment and there was no actual reason why the increase would occur; it doesn't say infrastructure is costing more or anything else, it just says the price was static. Give some real reasons on why prices need to increase.

Hello, I am writing to voice my opposition to the currentdraft of Proposed Amendment 3. The global DNS registration system is a public concern.This proposal benefits only Verisign, likely at public expense. If there is one rule of thumb in the online world it is thateverything gets more efficient and less expensive every year. Imagine the worldif you will, if Microsoft raised the wholesale price of Windows by up to %7 ayear. How about Google charging 7% more per click every year. With increasedvolume and improved efficiency, Verisign costs should be going DOWN, not UP! Before proposing blind numbers that have nothing butgreed behind them, please demand full transparency to the revenue stream. What does it actually cost to maintain the registry? How much profit was taken? Who are the stakeholders?Only then can the .COM owner community willingly participate in the pricing model. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run forthe public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Hello, I was unhappy to learn about possible price increases for my internet domain name services due to a recent decision by ICANN. According to my understanding of this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and there could be more consequences which I would have to pay for, and my site in largely educational and funded solely by myself. I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market [1]. It's simply not right to allow them to raise prices at this time. Brandon Galbraith [1] For example, Alphabet, a highly successful player in a very high-margin industry, has an operating margin of around 25%. Verisign's operating margin is over 2.75 times that.

Hello, Raising dot com costs to registrars hurts universal access to these critical domains. The value of TLDs is their ability to be purchased by all types of consumers, regardless of income level. The ability for fees to grow in 8 out of 10 years pushes domains farther away from average consumers, and make the web a less friendly place. If growing revenue from registrars is necessary, then transparency in this process is key. The changes proposed by ICANN will effectively make the . Com domains inaccessible to most of the users. Currently . Com domains are the preferred domain name for most businesses and individuals. Making them expensive would cause a select few people to have access to it and cause honest fair individuals bear th brunt of it for not being able to afford a. To ICANN Members; It must be nice to sit there and pay another company bribe money. How does that feel to take money from my pocket and pay it to another company? If it wasn’t for the many people who deal with the . com and generate the number of websites you would not exist. So it isn’t the fact that you own this, you control this. I believe that you need to rescind this decision based on the realm that is not financially feasible for some companies that you support capable of paying such a high price. Nor the fact that you did not go and ask the members of your community if it was ok to place such an increase on them. Every where around the world and every economy around the world is suffering. I understand that you have to keep up with inflation, but 70% in 10 years is way out of line don’t you think? It’s also to bring Verisign in and allow them to be a registrar and a reseller too. Allowing Verisign to raise the wholesale costs on .Com names and being their own registrar while forwarding 20 million dollars to ICANN gives the appearance of Collusion and bribery. Since ICANN is nonprofit, I would much rather see a small increase in ICANN fees charged directly to consumers, if necessary. I personally own over 200 domain names for my own use (not for resell), and it would be a significant burden on me to bear unfettered increases in domain costs. Verisign's dominant position allows them to strong arm its competitors and, in affect, function like a monopoly. It would be better for ICANN to accept their gifts without making concessions. It's not fair to the public to act quietly behind closed doors to raise the prices of .com domains simply because you have the monopoly power to do it. What needs to happen here is for Congress to break up your monopoly, allow fair competition into this arena, and stop all private groups like yours (including the FED) from having monopoly power and abusing it. While I can understand that ICANN and Verisign have operating costs that cannot be directly billed through services provided, these proposed increases in domain registry costs unfairly weight the burden on a small percentage of domain registrations rather than distributing the increase evenly across all domain types. This adversely impacts particularly on small businesses who are expected to use .com domains in order to maintain reasonable market competitiveness. Additionally, it unfairly burdens smaller web services companies such as ours who provide domain management for our hosted clients. We ask that you reconsider your position and do not move forward with this proposed amendment.
