After the recent change with .org's, I am surprised that ICANN would be risking additional bad publicity in a secretive deal with Verisign that is feared to increase .com prices. More transparency should be the answer instead--with inflation, raising prices would be a necessity at some point, but the general public is likely to respond negatively unless data transparency can account for the increased cost to provide the same service. Without that data and transparency, this move is likely to be perceived as driven by greed. I would hope for the sake of all involved, either this decision will be reversed or it will necessarily include a level of transparency. I present my opposition to the proposed agreement with Verisign. This deal needs structure as to how the money will be spent within icann who will over see the spending of that money an many more transparency clauses placed in. I also strong object to the agreement on allowing them to change the price this many times over the next 10 years. If this happens it could cause unrest and start having legislative consequences as the continued agreement that the internet is a public utility. It would also raise the cost of entry for many companies or would be start ups that would unreasonably be hindered by the price increases. Thank you for the time.

Please do NOT allow price increase to .COM domains, it's obviously a pure profit incentive that ICANN has been paid to allow. This is NOT in the public's interest and is at-best a scam. There is no inherent cost associated with maintaining domains that is even CLOSE to the price of a .COM domain today, and raising prices will just place an undue burden on small businesses. STOP IT. Without the ability to predict rising costs of domains, individuals and organizations will struggle to offset the expense. These changes also come with limited fiscal oversight and clarity into decision-making processes. As a citizen and domain holder, I urge you to take a more fiscally-responsible and transparent approach.

The increase in the .com hurts the consumer the internet is open for all and should not be treated as a for profit enterprise, running costs, and r&d and maintenance for DNS is fine, but I do not believe the increase in cost in justified in these circumstances. My understanding is that this agreement was agreed to without any knowledge of the people who sell domain names to the users or the users themselves. I think .COM names should not be treated like a commodity in general commerce and more like a public good. So prices should be dealt with accordingly and all relevant parties should be involved in changes to the agreement. No way would I be continuing to register a .COM domain name with this price hike next year, I would easily and be too willing to switch to some of the more well known, cheaper and more ‘sensible’ domain names out there, meaning Verisign and ICANN would be losing a lot of business, not just by me but by lots of other people and businesses too.
