As a registrant of multiple .com domains I will happily be moving my business elsewhere should the price increase proposal go through. The prices are fine where they’re at. Increasing the prices continuously will only hurt ordinary citizens and most owners of .com domains. This is not done with the public’s interest in mind, and should be dismissed.

This needs to be extremely limited in the amount of increase per year and what the increased prices are actually covering. I have been advised by my registrar that ICANN have agreed a behind the scenes deal with Verisign that will from all reports hugely increase the cost of maintaining the registration of the aforesaid dot com domains. I see absolutely no justification in this action which will merely enrich Verisign at the expense of the all dot com domain’s users. I think it is absolutely diabolical that this deal has been negotiated behind closed doors without any consultation with the user who will be most affected by this deal. There is an alarming lack of transparency going on here, and there is talk of Version handing what is described as a large sum of money to ICANN, without any detail as to what this significant sum of money is to be used for.

I am a registrant of some .com domain names. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. I strongly disagree with your proposal allowing Verisign to increase .com prices over the next decade. This will harm average internet contributors like myself that don’t have the resources to keep paying for all these increases and will harm the internet as a whole making it less accessible for average users to start .com websites.

I was saddened to see the recent Verisign/ICANN agreement activities. Especially, the lack of transparency and good ol boy type business dealings. This casts a big shadow over the Internet management oversight. As we have seen in the current government/politicians/business corruption this mirrors the same model - which is: money + organizations + secrecy + monopoly = corruption or the possibility, or the perception of it - none of which are good. I own over 125 domains (most of them .com's), and I oppose your plan to allow such broad reaching and largely unrestricted price increases. There is no way that the cost of running scalable registries is increasing at such a pace -- in fact, it's certainly past the scaling phase and stabilizing as web infrastructure services have become a commodity. Allowing these price increases serves only corporate greed and not the public good. It will harm the availability of registering domains in low-income areas of the world, effectively contributing to drowning out the voices of those who most need a voice through the internet/web. --Kyle Simpson

Hello, I've been recently informed of the decision to allow Verisign to increase the registration price for .com domain and I believe this is a very bad decision. Internet became what it is today because anyone with a good idea could create a website and get in touch with the entire world, with little to no means. Now this price increase would definitely get your more money but would eventually hurt entrepreneurship by making it more expensive to get even the basic .com domain name for a project.

Unless there is a clear and tangible benefit to raising the costs, do everything possible to keep them low and put restrictions on increases so that these costs are not inflated just based on market value.
