Hello,
ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is a for-profit US based company. As such it has the right to price it's products anyway it chooses. However, as the saying goes, with much power comes much responsibility.
If ICANN is going to raise it's rates for .COM domains. Why has there been no discussion with all of the agents who sell these domains? ICANN exists to facilitate organize the Internet, correct? Then why does it not take input from the Internet before making wholesale decisions which affect the livelihood of millions of people.
Also, why does it take money from corporations like Verisign in order to give them preferential treatment? And why does the Dept. of Justice allow this to go unpunished.
ICANN is just like any other greedy corporation. They don't even consider the impact on jobs, commerce and people in general.
I oppose this raise in price and I intend to let my representatives in the U.S. Government aware of this corporate cash grab.
