Dear ICAAN,
On the outside looking in, this deal looks dirty. Large amounts of money changing hands, discussions behind closed doors, a company siding with big business and a willingness to disregard its own founding principles.
Whichever way you try and spin this, it is a proposal which in no way can be seen as a positive for either ICAAN or the global community. It supports an attempt to monopolise the .COM business at the expense of both those who use it and of your reputation. Reducing transparency, hoodwinking their customers and prioritising the bottom line did not work well for Volkswagen.
Simply put, implementing this proposal will go against everything you stand for. It's difficult to understand how you can, on one hand, preach transparency and fairness and, on the other, not only practice the opposite but also genuinely attempt to justify it.
There's still time to make the right decsion.
Yours in disbelief and disappointment,
Matt Saleh
