We’re a web developer for mostly small businesses. As of now, many of them buy extra domains for protection from competitors making a competitive website. It’s already a major investment for some of these clients to keep up those extra domains. If the prices were to rise significantly (more than a dollar or two) I would bet they would just drop their ownership of these extra domains. So, in the long run, your trying to be greedy for more money would actually backfire since registration of domains would actually drop.
