Domain names need to be kept cheap to keep costs down.  This decision directly affects all businesses around the world including small businesses of countries who already struggle to pay and to start their business.  Increasing the costs may place businesses in third world countries out of reach and inaccessible to the global marketplace online, forcing them to not have unique branding and website names.
