Proposed changes in the administration and pricing of .COM domains should be withdrawn. The proposed agreement was negotiated in secret by ICANN and Verisign.
Verisign gains the ability to raise prices far beyond reasonable limits and could even operate through a puppet registrar to gain an unfair advantage in domain sales.
ICANN should not be swayed by the extra $20 million in revenue it will gain over the next five years. This has every appearance of a kickback. With full transparency, ICANN needs to explain the exact purpose and use of these new funds.
.COM domains are a public benefit. Any changes to the administration of those domains should be negotiated in the light of day with input from all interested parties.
